We're a punk band. We're a 3 piece and our main influences are Pennywise, Propaghandi, NOFX, Bad Religion, 88 Fingers Louie. We are from Northern Ireland.
The songs sometimes have a political edge, sometimes local politics, sometimes global politics. Usually they're about things which matter to us. The songs are fast, the faster the better.
Why this name?
OK, this is longish, but bear with me. OK the name is 'Mellow Dramatic' 2 words. But the one word Melodramatic means over the top, making a big deal out of nothing etc. Then the word Mellow means laid back, cool. The word Dramatic means attention grabbing, eventful. Whack all of thse together and you get Mellow Dramatic as well as an oxymoron and a double entendre.
At the end of the day what does a band name even matter anyway?
Do you play live?
We play live ALOT we've played 58 gigs in 2004 alone, including tours to Rep. of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and of course all over Northern Ireland.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
MP3s are great, long live the internet and free music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Not a major label proably.
Band History:
Mellow Dramatic began away back in January 2001 as an idea between Jim (myself) and Bob Kelly, where we would get on stage play punk songs to people who didn't care and when we were done we'd get great blow jobs and swollen egos, after about 3 or 4 years we'd make it big and resist selling out until we had to support a family (easily avoided with some snippy surgery). 2 and a half years on following emigrations, arguements and all the usual reasons we managed to plough through 16 different band members. The current and hopefully final line-up is Mo O'Kane on Bass and yelling, Jonny Nectarine on Guitar and lovely singing and Jim (me) on Drums and rough ass backing vocals.
In our career, til present we've recorded four EPs. The first was called simply 'EP' and was a 5 track wonder recorded at Tone Deaf studios by Paddy Trolan. That was in about November of 2002. The second was called 'What a Disappointment' which was 6 tracks recorded in Einstein studios by Frankie McClay, that was in June or so of 2003. The third recorded in November of 2003 is a 7 track lovliness also recorded at Einstein and it's called 'Loose Change'. The fourth (and in my opinion, best) was recorded in June 2004, released in November 2004. 7 tracks.
