I'm Frankie Cleary. I'm 24 and in the Navy. Well, during what little freetime I have on my ship, I write acoustic vocal driven songs. In late 2006 I took these songs to Steve Sherrard at DBar Productions where we hired musicians to turn these acoustic demos into full band hits.
Why this name?
Simple. My name is Frankie Cleary. So I ran with that.
Do you play live?
Previously I have played at coffee shops, open mics, and keggers. Currently I don't play anywhere because I'm probably on my ship in the middle of the Persian Gulf. Go Navy.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is one of the best things to ever happen to the music industry. Many top 40 artists who get their music ripped off might disagree, but for indie artists like myself, I would've never had the opportunity for so many people to listen to my music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably not. The benefit to a major label is the already established connections and serious financial backing. But all they really do is take a more than generous cut and leave the artist to still do all the work. As technology improves it becomes easier for the little guy to get his music heard. The opportunity to do do it yourself is out there. You just gotta have the right stuff in order to make it big.
