FROM THESE ASHES began creating their versatile mixture of aggressive, melodic drenched sound in July 2003, packing each newly created gem with monster hooks & riffs, numbing low end, precision drumming and memorable vocals. Not content with their past musical directions, the members brought together years worth of experience writing, touring & recording in the common goal of crafting hard edged music that would connect with the public on a primitive and streetwise, yet personal & intellectual level. Drawing influence from the past four decades worth of various types of music, the band's material showcases strong musicianship and technical songwriting, entertaining concert attendees and club patrons hungry for something fresh and original.

The band's tireless work ethic is highly admirable. To date they have recorded and released 4 CD's. Within 6 weeks of forming, the band had recorded their 6 song debut "Severed Wings". They then hit the road in support of the CD, playing wherever, whenever and with whomever they could. FTA suffered a set back when they lost original bassist Pat Chambers in October 2004. Remarkably they were back in the studio with new bassist Ben Shutter and the addition of a second guitarist Vinnie Calvario recording the follow up "Depending On A False Tomorrow" in January 2005. Keeping up their churning pace, "Scarred For Life" (the band's 3rd CD) was released in April 2006. Having to overcome another obstacle, the band dealt with the departure of longtime bassist Ben Shutter in April as well. The band was able to work in new bassist Josh Potter without missing any shows and had an even stronger resolve to write, record & tour.

July 2008 saw the departure of lead guitarist Vinnie Calvario. March 2009 brought the heavy hearted departure of founder, manager & lead singer Jason Potter. In July 2009, FTA played their last show with the classic, true lineup as Vinnie came back for the show which was to be a final farewell performance for him and Jason. The band is still trying to find replacements for the 2.

FROM THESE ASHES have been entertaining the live music seeking public since September 2003. They have a fast growing catalog of material which affords them the opportunity to keep their set lists fresh for audiences. The band has been fortunate enough to have shared the stage with many great bands, including major label recording artists such as Ill Nino, God Forbid, HavocHate (former members of Slayer & Testament), Dope, Suicide City (former Biohazard & Kittie members), Bleed The Sky (Nuclear Blast Records), Five Bolt Main (former members of Flaw and Darwin's Waiting Room), The Autumn Offering (Victory Records), Brand New Sin (Century Media), Dog Fashion Disco & many more. In addition to the great response FTA's albums have been gaining live and online at such websites as MySpace, SoundClick, and PureVolume, their CD's have also been enjoying airplay on Elmira NY's WNGZ 104.9, Ithaca NY's WVBR 93.5, Geneva NY's 89.7 FM, and Limestone NY's WKEG 104.7.

Why this name?
The band's name is derived from a book of the same name by Fredric Brown, yet holds a great significance to us. We all came from other bands, and for us, this band was in essence a new start & beginning, not only musically, but on a personal, physical & emotional level as well. We've all had our share of bad relationships & friendships, death & loss of loved ones, undesirable jobs, etc. The title of our first CD "Severed Wings" also elaborates further on that subject....to leave the past behind - sever all ties and move on.
Do you play live?
We play live whenever and wherever we get the chance to. We're based near the northern PA/southern NY border, so shows are generally in that area. We've had a limited amount of chances to date, but things are always a bit slow when you're first getting a band up and running. Even once things are rolling steady, you still have ups and downs, like anything in life. There are so many behind the scenes things that need to be dealt with that most people probably don't even realize or think about. We are for the most part entirely self sufficient at this point, and it takes a great deal of time and money to keep things rolling. Equipment, instruments, strings, drum sticks, etc, gas getting to shows (which we usually do not get paid for), manufacturing & distribution of CD's & stickers, design & maintenance of our website, and the list goes on and on - but we LOVE every second of it!!!! Special moments for us are shows that have decent turnouts, touring in new areas, making new fans & friends, and opening for national signed acts like Dog Fashion Disco, Brand New Sin, HavocHate & Backstreet Law.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a great and valuable tool when used effectively. Think of how many bands would not get the chance to be heard without it....I suppose that could be a good thing as well because there's also a lot of garbage out there that the Mp3 listener has to wade through to find quality material worth their time. As for the music industry, hopefully it is making the industry more aware of what people REALLY want to hear, not what they THINK they should, and that there is some really great talent in the most unlikely of places sometimes.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course we would - as long as we had adequate tour support and CD distribution, so that we could keep creating more music and touring to promote that music, as well as widening our scope of fans. It's pretty much every band's dream and anyone that says it isn't is only fooling themselves. Who doesn't want to be able to make a living off of their music so they don't have to flip burgers or bag groceries?
Your influences?
A wide variety of music, mostly Hard Rock & Metal, from the 60's to today, other local musicians, friends, family, LIFE. We like a lot of the newer harder metal, like Lamb Of God, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage & Chimaira, but also love older stuff like Sabbath, Pantera, Metallica & much more.
Favorite spot?
Anyplace where there's a hungry & eager crowd waiting, wanting & willing to hear our music.
Anything else...?
Thanks again for taking the time to check out From These Ashes!! We hope you like what you've seen & heard.
