Discord Aggregate is a group of experimental artists dedicated to expanding the boundaries in music, literature, film, web art and new art forms. A. Molotkov, S.B. Reda, Pamela Zero.
Why this name?
We were looking for a name both unique and memorable, which also, in some way, reflects the type of art we were intent on creating.
Do you play live?
Discord Aggregate does mainly studio work at the moment. Live performances are infrequent. Please subscribe to our mailing list to be notified.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It increases dramatically the artist’s ability to find an audience and to communicate with that audience. In addition, Discord Aggregate has been using the Internet as an art form as and of itself, creating a wide range of conceptual web art projects which may be found at our web site: http://www.discord-aggregate.com.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Unlikely, unless we have ultimate control over the conditions of such a contract, which is something record labels don't like very much.
Band History:
Discord Aggregate has been a full-functioning art group since 1996. Since its inception, the group has created 5 video films, 4 novels, 3 CDs and a host of innovative web art projects (visit Discord Aggregate web site if you have a month to spare).
Your influences?
Experimental, avant garde, progressive: Fred Frith, Gong, Pink Floyd, Robert Wyatt, Laurie Anderson, Zappa, Velvet Underground, Iva Bittova, King Crimson, Dead Can Dance, CAN, Sheila Chandra, Bulgarian Women's Choir, Terry Riley, Meredith Monk, Steve Reich
Favorite spot?
DiscordAggregateVille (to be built in the near future)
Equipment used:
ProTools, sometimes external studios.
Anything else...?
For "The Attack of the Absolute Zeros" DISCORD AGGREGATE enlisted a 5-piece band: Zeppi Salerno (alto saxophone, bass clarinet), Byron Rynes (guitar), Scott Mayfield (keyboards), Tony Johnson (bass), Jason Willard (drums, percussion). Part of the music was created in an improvised setting with their participation. The album was given its final unique sound and structure during the mixing. All vocals by Pamela Zero, spoken voice by S.B. Reda, additional voices: Herb Heinz, Jackie Carpenter, A. Molotkov. ***************************************************************************** For “The Texture of the Sky”, the three DISCORD AGGREGATE members played (with) a wide variety of instruments. Pamela Zero: vocals, spoken voice, violin, sitar, astrotube, roto-tom rotation. S.B. Reda: vocals, spoken voice, saxophone, guitar, bass, drums, theremin, moog, roto-tom rotation. A. Molotkov: vocals, spoken voice, violin, keyboards, drums, tabla, doumbek, theremin. ***************************************************************************** Playing on "Step Forward And Be" are Rodney Haley (saxophone) Byron Rynes (guitar) and Scott Mayfield (keyboards). They improvised to prerecorded voice tracks. All voice parts rerecorded and all tracks remixed in 2000. Text and spoken voice: A. Molotkov and S.B. Reda.
