NEWS   -------------------------------------------------
We will playing the Edge 102.1 INDIE HOUR on Saturday, May 15th. The show starts at 9PM sharp. You can come down to 228 Yonge St. to see us, or you can listen to the station. They'll play a couple of our songs, one of them hopefully being a new one. Then on May 18th we are at the DRAKE HOTEL to play the GAME PAD show (a night dedicated to video game appreciation). On Saturday, May 22nd we will play for the INTERNATIONAL YOUTH WEEK (because we're all still youths, I think, do early 20s qualify as being a youth, yes, no, maybe, sometimes?). We don't know where this show will take place as of yet, I think it will be at the Toronto City Hall, or Nathan Phillips Square, or not, we really don't know. There are Live MP3s from our last show are now available in addition to the ones from the album, check them out in the music section, one is a cover song ("Killing an Arab" by the Cure), the other one is "Narrows" from the record. Currently we are back in the studio, working on some new and quasi-new material, we are working fast and hope to have an MP3 or two up soon. In the next couple of days we will have photos from our 2-day tour to Kingston/Oshawa in the first week of March, we took all of them ourselves, so there are none of us playing, just us walking around, trying to hit all the major attractions. Thanks to everyone who came out to the TRANSIENT ORANGE 2ND ANNIVERSARY show on Saturday, April 10th. It took place at the B-SIDE, and featured six live acts & three DJs. All the information is HERE. Thanks to Matt for putting it together, and thanks to the soundman for keeping it together during an unprecedented 6-act show. We recently discovered photos from one of our early shows at the Stoneplace, they are now up in the PHOTOS section. On March 29th, we played at DURHAM COLLEGE in Oshawa, thanks to Leanna and Dan for their help, and we also have PHOTOS available from that short excursion to the outskirts of the GTA. We have finished our 2-day stint at SNEAKY DEE's. The SHOEDAZE show on Friday, March 19th was amazing. Every act was so different, yet so good. I've been waiting to see the MEAN RED SPIDERS again for 2 years, and they didn't disapoint, & Paul blew everyone away with his insane guitar sounds. Thanks to Aidan for putting it all together. UNNATURAL GLOW was a real good show on the Thursday, 18th of March with THE IVY LEAGUE, THE STEADY STATE, & LEWIS, also at SNEAKY DEE's, this show was intoxicating (I am slowly descending into the porthole to dimentia). Our CD is now available in-store in Toronto, check the music section for details. We are back from our 2-show tour, we made stops in Kingston & Oshawa. Both the shows had really good sound and we had a great time. In Kingston we visited the numerous penitentiaries in this, the former, short-lived capital of Canada. Big thanks to MONEY MONEY for joining us on our MINI-TOUR, we'll be playing with them again in their home town of Peterborough in June. Thanks to everyone who came out to the WAVELENGTH show on February 29th with THE PATIENTS & DJ TANNER, we played two new songs, and a new cover, check out the music section, the set is listed. Recently, WINTARY played the TRANSIENT ORANGE VALENTINES EVE show on Friday, February the 13th with WELCOME KARMA, ABIGAIL LAPELL & CHRISTIAN STEPIEN. The SHOEDAZE show was with THE MEAN RED SPIDERS, OFF THE INTERNATIONAL RADAR , MNEMOSYNE & PAUL SINCLAIR of SIANSPHERIC. Currently, we are working on setting-up tour dates for the second week of June with Winnipeg's ABSENT SOUND in Ontario/Quebec, as well as other dates.
May / June / July / August shows in Toronto, Oshawa, Ottawa, Montreal, Hamilton, Mississauga, New York City, Brooklyn, Buffalo, Guelph, St. Catherines, London, Waterloo, Widsor, Brantford, Kingston, Barrie, Peterborough, Belleville, Brockville, Lindsay. TBA. Stay Tuned.

WINTARY has recently been interviewed by WAVELENGTH look for it in the February Edition. There's a REVIEW & an INTERVIEW. We were also interviewed by SPILL MAGAZINE, you can read the feature there, or on the author's, CAMERON GORDON's site. SOUL SHINE posted a LIVE REVIEW of our TRANSIENT ORANGE show at the RANCHO RELAXO on February 13th. Here are the PHOTOS from that show, thanks to Brad & Vivi for taking them. WINTARY's song FREE RADIO is included on the RYERSON UNIVERSITY FUNCTION compilation CD, thaks to Heather & Alice for putting us on. It is now available for sale at the ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO, or by contacting function@rogers.com. NARROWS will be on the DURHAM COLLEGE BACKROW RECORDS compilation CD. Recently, we were featured on NEW MUSIC CANADA, our song NARROWS is on NMC RADIO. You can catch Serge playing the bass as part of the music section for A NIGHT WITH DAVID IVES, a play currently running at the TRANZAC theatre on 292 Brunswick Avenue, just South of Bloor in Toronto. It's really well done, check the listings in NOW or EYE.

apr.28th.2004 - The IV Lounge is a converted Victorian house. We played on the floor, and Anthony set-up in the DJ-booth. We videotaped the whole night, so we have furthered our archives of insanity, or something like that. - SS

apr.20th.2004 - we're working on recording new songs.........and im writing one of my
own,...this is the chours "oh lord what are you doing to us" its not about
religion, but i allways liked all the jesus songs by the violent femmes and
tought it would sound nice..... looking forward to writing more words. - Peter Denes

apr.11th.2004 - Six live acts & a monkey. That was last night. I had fun, and people bought our CD, so I felt nice. This was the first show where I escaped the duties of loading and unloading the gear, so I enjoyed that. But we are going to be recording this coming week, so I'm going to pay. - SS

apr.11th.2004 - b-sides, was nice.........serge sweat off 5 pounds, i gained a new dance
move, and tony learned to give up the p.a. system duties.......but leaving
the show last night was nutto; the club district was letting out and there
was a sea of drunk drivers on richmond st.....one lady bug hit a pedestrian
and started yelling at him, but he turned out to be an under cover police
officer man......i laughed, until i saw a cross dressing blonde with a
business man in a mazda beside me at a red light doing the unthinkable. where is rockn' roll?
we are electric musica; bleep was great last night too.....beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. - Peter Denes

apr.5th.2004 - The following is part of a hazed conversation that occured in Bloordale Village.
"serge the don't holla todder interview um yay guy that does sh*** i dunno they wanna interview me ya ya friday nite stay mean reds hamilton soo good go-trains hamilton scene 5 bucks cheaper than gas keyboards who wants a traynor"
"how much i dunno huge rip not best good sounds great"
"member gittin f***ed at the bloordale f***in word" - SS / AD / TW / TH

mar.30th.2004 - It was a very nostalgic evening at Durham College in Oshawa last night. We felt like we were back in school, and it was weird. I've already put in my 4 years in a post-secondary institution, and even one more day in those surroundings could put me over the edge. I came close last night. There was jumping and photography involved, along with alchohol and pharmaceuticals. Maybe next time we play at a College I'll lose it completely, we could only hope. - SS

mar.20th.2004 - Last night, we played first. We where the first to gaze at our shoes, and
the first to jump and sweat, and the first to shake a little ass. The stage was
hot, wet, and hot. We played a shorter set, but felt pretty tight, smoked on
stage (its really the best part), and sold cds. Playing shows is fun,
especialy when we play like wild monkey men from mars. Tony left Serge for
his lady love bug, I left serge for other reasons, and the boy had to fend
for himself post show gazing jungle bread sticks. - Peter Denes

mar.19th.2004 - We played last night at Sneaky Dee's with Lewis, Ivy League, & The Steady State. It was a fun night. All our friends came out and I was out-of-commision for most of the night. They tell you not to bring your own drinks, and now I know why. It was so hot on stage, I was sweating like a monkey in the jungle. I can't believe there's no lock-up at the Dee's. We thought maybe we could leave some of our equipment at the club, because we are playing there again today. But, no, look out below. I really need more sleep, really. - SS

mar 10th.2004 - serge and I (peter) are going to be teachers tomorow. We'll be teaching kids how to make movies and how to be in them. oh oh, im a little nervous about it, but hopefuly things will work out.....i can still rember when i feared teachers, now i have to be one. Someone pass the ruler, i got an itch to scratch. --this is not music related, but too bad, a log is a log. - Peter Denes

mar. 6th.2004 - We are back in the city and still in three pieces. - SS

mar. 5th.2004- life on the road; we drive around to a place, then the next,
the chair i sit on shakes in the van. Kingston we played a very intimate set
to our 2 friends who where left in the audience, and Oshawa was somewhat
better. WE rocked pretty hard in oshawa, we got new dance moves too! Tony
and his beard are doing well, as am i, and serge is hanging on to his chin
hair. P.S. My facial hair has gotten thicker because of this mini tour, i think im
a man now. - Peter Denes

mar.1st.2004 - The first day of March. Yesterday was Leap Day. We played the Wavelength series at Sneaky Dee's with The Patients. It was a good show, the sound was decent, and I could hear myself sing pretty well. Our tape machine had a hickup, and we were unable to play the first song. Then, during the first song of the set (which is actually the second song) Peter's guitar wasn't plugged in. But after that it was alright. Thanks to everyone who came out. - SS

feb.14th.2004 - It is Valentine's Day. Last night we played at the Rancho Relaxo. It was a real good show thanks to a great sound-guy, his name was Spock. He actually did look like Leonard Nimoy, if Leonard Nimoy grew ass-long hair and played the flute to the band on stage while riding the consul levels. - SS

jan.27th.2004 - The dream i had last night was odd. i was in the crowd on the floor playing guitar, and serge and tony played some song i never heard of...i made the most of it, and went along playing lead...but i ask myself, why was i on the floor? - Peter Denes

dec.19th.2003 - It was one to remember, or is it forget? The Qbar isn't all that great. But, a big thanks to the Fever Sheds and Waek Infinidee for making the most out of it. - SS

dec.14th.2003 - 'EAT CAKE' was the name of the party at the Stonesplace last night. It was my friend's Irene's going away to NYC party. By the time we played the place was packed, at least 100 people. It was an energetic set, although I broke three guitar strings on two separate guitars. I also had some cake. It was chocolate. Mmmmm... - SS

dec.11th.2003 - The Stonesplace showcase was alright. We played a 32 minute set, and there were four other bands playing. The sound was good, and the venue, although there's no stage, is pretty nice. There are couches everywhere, and it's a very nice atmosphere. - SS

dec.5th.2003 - The Catch 22 show in Oshawa went real well. We went on at 11:15 and did a 45 minute set. Cringer played after us, and it was very good. The sound was great, and the venue was, to our surprise, very nice. It had a whole "Quentin Tarrantino" thing going on, with posters of Pulp Fiction and Resevoir Dogs. All the upholstery was in a zebra pattern. Also the lighting was impressive. This Catch 22 venue has only been in business for 2 months, and the owner is new talent friendly. I recommend this venue to any band wishing to play in Oshawa. - SS

nov.23rd.2003 - The Oasis show was pretty good. The sound was a little sketchy though. All in all QuasiMojo did a great set, as did the Black Stripes. We went on at 11:30 and did a 45 minute set. People seemed to enjoy us, although I think my guitar was a little loud. - SS

nov.2nd.2003 - The Woodstock show went over really nice. We went on at 10:30 and did a 40 minute set. The sound was decent, although I sometimes couldn't hear myself sing. There were three other bands playing. - SS

Wintary is an experimental arthaus band. The sound is framed by the analog sequences. Sweet distortion guitars are blended with simple voice melodies & frequency keys to create a clash of analog & digital elements. These three Toronto artists have been collaborating with each other on various projects for the last five years. Their interests & artistic pursuits are numerous & varied; an aspect that is very much reflected by the musical manner of Wintary. Founded on the idea of mixing genres & media; Wintary's sound can be best described as melodic, experimental, arthaus rock. Their core method is blending soft & wet break beats with sweet distortion guitars, & layering tuneful vocals on top. Live instruments & sequenced beats produce an innovative live show & leave lots of room for experimentation. Quite frequently Wintary will introduce a visual element to the performance. This cross-media approach is an integral part of Wintary's methodology. Looking at the photo (from left to right); Peter Denes is a visual director & editor in addition to being an accomplished musician; he plays the bass & sings backup. Anthony Lorusso is a photographer & sound engineer; he plays keyboards & sequences the beats. Serge Slipache is the songwriter of the group; he is a filmmaker & painter, he plays the guitar & sings lead.
--------------------------------------------------
Do you play live?
--------------------------------------------------
Yes, we play live. Our live show has been described as energetic and innovative. We also try to incorporate multi-media elements in our live performance.
--------------------------------------------------
Band History:
--------------------------------------------------
Wintary has been together in one form or another since 1998. That year their first recording was completed (Sad Luck). This demo had a total of 13 tracks and was made available at live shows. The second recording was done in 1999 (Rain in Every Cloud), this was a monster 23 track work that was also available at live performances. At that time university got in the way and Wintary took a break. Although in 2001, Serge Slipache made an 8 track recording entitled "Bird's Eye View from the Ground". This was mainly an acoustic work to back Serge's sole performances. Finally, in November of 2002 Wintary embarked on a full scale project. The second largest studio in Toronto (Monumental Sound) was made available to them and over the next 4 months Wintary took full advantage. By the summer of 2003 most of the 15 (10 of which are available on this site) final tracks were completed and the mastering began. During the long summer of 2003 Wintary perfected their live show in support of the new recordings and emerged in November ready to play. The album is called "008 TRACKS: RT (MIN) = 37:00", and Wintary is currently performing live in and around their home town of Toronto, Ontario, Canada in support of it. Please check out the Tour Dates on this site for more detailed information.
