Rooke mixes electro, pop, rock, folk and dance to produce a truly eclectic sound. Formally known as Richard Hill (you hear a good range of his back catalogue on the compilation album 'Time Machine'), Rooke has been releasing material online for over 10 years. 2011 sees Rooke ready to release a series of EP's inspire by dance music and club culture of the past, present and future. Have played live both solo and in bands over the years.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has changed the music industry - as it has every other business. However, in the past the music industry has relied on physical copy to ensure large margins - not much of which went back into the artists pocket. Now Artists can coordinate the release and promotion of their material online, putting them in the driving seat. Also, artists who may have been off the major labels radar now have the chance to get their music out there!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes
Your influences?
Prince, Bowie, dance music and the Brit-pop scene have all influenced my sound.
Favorite spot?
Leeds - having a nice lunch in the sun by the river
