Modern singer/songwriter with multi-genre influences and songs that cross over multiple genres.
Why this name?
It is a barbarism of my given name and the archaic version of my Irish surname Trevor MacKarney. It is also a method of distinguishing between my self and the vehicle for my artistic creations.
Do you play live?
In a club where I had never performed before, I sang a tribute (acapella) to a late singer who I very much admired...you could have heard a pin drop in between lines and during the pause after I finished and the applause started.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It has changed the music industry quite a bit so far and in many ways. Today's generation doesn't want the whole CD...they just want the songs that they like. They want the whole CD if it is one of their favorite artists. The industry has really accomplished this on their own by not paying attention to the true artists in the industry and focusing only on the marketing and the 'marketable'.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
I would be very wary of major labels. I want to own my music forever. I make it for me so therefor it is a part of me. I do not endeavor to sell part of myself. A distribution deal is probably as far as I would ever want to go in that direction.
Band History:
Learning that he loved music very early in his life, Vert was exposed to mainly 'roots' music such as bluegrass ( The Carter Family, Hank Snow ) and the classic country artists ( Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins ). Though leading a normal childhood and adolescence, Vert frequently felt like he didn't fit in and often put his thoughts on paper. With the later influences of rock, pop, everything else that the ear can absorb and a love of poetry acquired in High School, he began writing lyrics.
His songs are reflective and often feature common topics presented in uncommon fashion which are received as fresh-sounding by listeners. The wording is thought-provoking and interesting, often drawing the listener inside the song and letting them depart with a feeling of experience.
