Long Island Sound
We Are: Evolution, Open Mic, Hi-C and W.B.
Why this name?
Our name came from where we were raised
Do you play live?
Live shows are random, most likely to catch us freestyling at battles, shows, and on the block.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet has made it possible for artists without big industry pull to get themselves exposed. This in itself is a huge step forward for the underground music scene.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes I would still sign a record contract with a major label, because no matter how much underground exposure you can gain, in order for everyone to be able to hear you, the push and money that goes with it can only come from a major label.
Band History:
We've been together for about 6 years now just doing our thing around Long Island, the 5 boroughs, and upstate NY. Open Mic and Evolution are the founding members having grown up around the corner from each other. Hi-C and W.B. came in about 6 years ago through various affiliations. We are still growing in numbers and are currently looking to add a female emcee and either a male or female vocalist. In addition we are also on the lookout for a steady producer to work with so we can spend more time on our lyrics.
Your influences?
Our musical influences vary widely. Evolution has roots in Punk, Hardcore, Ska and Reggae as well as all other types of music. He has performed in both Ska and Hardcore bands. Open Mic has and always will be a hip hop head. Hi-C is very much into the jam band scene as well as all other creative forms of expression. W.B. also has roots in hardcore and stays mostly underground with his hip hop as you can hear in his flow.
Favorite spot?
My home, New York City. To pick a borough is impossible as I have roots in all of them. There is nothing like walking around New York City freestyling with random people and watching people do and say things you never thought you'd experience.
