My band is "me" with more than a little help from my lyricist, Tony Shears, on the songwriting front. Our songs might not be typical of today's market but neither are they antiquated, hence the Adult Contemporary title.
This particular album "Remnants Of A Cavernous Boot" is a reference to our seventies band "Cavernous Boot" which consisted of Tony and myself along with the world's best guitarist Dave Draper and our seriously deranged drummer Steve Allen who tried vainly to keep us in line with his beat. We mainly played the North London pubs and clubs at the time and had as much work as we wanted, so we couldn't have been that bad.
Most tracks on this album are new songs that we wrote last year, some are melody written for lyric, some are lyric put to a melody and a couple are re-writes of our original songs being performed 40 years ago. It's a very mixed bag which I hope you'll find as enjoyable to listen to as it was to record.
I was born some time ago...
I don't play "live" anymore as I'm much more interested in composing and recording whilst trying to be fresh and innovative. That said, I will always miss the buzz and excitement of live gigs.
The Beatles (hugely); The Eagles; Bread; 10cc; Andrew Gold; Mike & The Mechanics; Paul Carrack; a-Ha; Jackson Browne; The Moody Blues; Pink Floyd; Elton John; I could go on. I like many current bands such as Snow Patrol, Razorlight and Coldplay who are just brilliant!
Mainly guitars of which I have a Rickenbacker, a couple of Strats, a great Ovation 12 string acoustic, a Les Paul and a Gibson Hounddog Resonator, not forgetting my super Breedlove acoustic. I also have so many synths, hard and soft and a grand piano for good measure. I record through a Spirit Digital Mixer and use a combination of Cubase and my trusty Soundscape, an old reliable DAW.
If you'd like a CD version of the album you will be able to buy it from my site in the near future. Please visit www.mickyrisk.com soon.
