The music released under my name, Tom Ryan, would not have been possible without a little help from friends - actually, more than a little. Special tributes go to Michael Wells, teacher and friend, and the Coalition for Disabled Musicians - especially Don Jaeger, who started it all and Linda and Bob Jaeger who reinvented it. I wrote the music, played all the instruments, did the voices and laid down all the tracks, but without Michael and CDM, it wouldn't have happened.
Do you play live?
I play live with Range of Motion, a band associated with the Coalition for Disabled Musicians, but not as Tom Ryan.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I am hoping that the internet will open the music industry to those previously closed out. It would be wonderful to be able to level the playing field, even a little so that music can flourish. The old model of the music industry is no longer viable.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Probably, if major labels still survive.
Your influences?
I draw on classic rock and pop, and current influences such as John Mayer, Train and Matchbox 20. The musicians in the Coalition for Disabled Musicians, Inc. also give me great inspiration. If you'd like to be inspired too, visit www.disabled-musicians.org
Equipment used:
I record my songs in Digital Orchestrator on my computer using standard instrumentation - guitar, bass, keyboards, and electronic drums and strings, etc.
