Malice In Leatherland is a funk and death driven rock projekt.
We pride ourselves in our ability to be bitingly weird, and aim to be fiercely subversive.
We abhor Emo, and whiney, pointless music.
Why this name?
It looked nice carved into murdered Emo twats...
Do you play live?
We've played live with many international acts, like Dinah Cancer's Penis Flytrap - who did the soundtrack to the famous Return of the Living Dead movie. We've played with Cinema Strange, Antiworld, and The Deep Eynde. I love thrashing about in front of audiences; our music is ment to be confrontational. We've played at O'Brien's Pub, Jaque's, The Bombshelter, American Legion Arlington and UMass Lowell among other places.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
MP3s make it easier for people to get ahold of your music, plain and simple. It's an independent artist's wet dream because it cuts out the need to have a middle man. Just get your music out there, and play out as much as you possibly can! Newer labels and more experimental distro models will come out of the trail and error of these independent musicians.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if we're offered complete artistic freedom, and Ashcrofts head on a pike.
Band History:
Formed in the historical hotbed of deviance, Massachusetts, Malice in Leatherland has been refining their corrosive blend of gothic, indie, and funk sounds since late May 2003. This trio - consisting of Lindsay Champagne on Drums, Michael Orifice on Guitar, and Basim Usmani on Fretless Bass/Vocals - has made its splash on the National American Horror Punk/Gothic rock scene recently with the release of their first single, "Suburban Holocaust".Characterized with its funk bass intro, crooned vocals, and confrontational edge, "Suburban Holocaust" has forged a new genre known as "Splatter Funk". The most sonic comparisons drawn were Primus, Oingo Boingo, Bauhaus, and Faith No More. As a young band, Malice in Leatherland is both well connected and dedicated to the local and national Dark Rock scene through radio (DJ Xiane at VA's WNRN), the press (Blu from the well reputed STARVOX webzine), and have played with international acts like, Cinema Strange, Antiworld, Penis Flytrap, The Deep Eynde and Saturn Effect. With their jaws clenched and limbs contorted, Malice in Leatherland are in it for the long haul, and their resolve is geared for success.
