DJ Mike E, 29 years old based in the Essex area close to Romford. I have been into the music scene since listening to old electro tapes and hip hop at school. I got influenced firstly into rave sounds when I heard a Top Buzz tape back in 91, which had these mad jungle 170 b.p.m sample breaks with hard kick techno samples & Mc lyrics on top of them. Have never looked back since these days and from the age of 20 started to buy vinyl of all genre and thus my large collection of records. Started to play out at various illegal parties back in the nineties when then the vibe was awesome, unlike now with all the politics etc. within the free party scene. After a break due to lack of very poor music in the mid nineties, I took up an office job for a while. Then I felt a real vibe about the jungle/drum'n bass production that was been released and once again started to add once more to my record collection. Adding some greats tunes like 'Timeless' Goldie, 'Colours' Adam F stand out for me from this era. I then thought 'shit' I wouldn't mind learning about producing this sort of music. In the year 2000 I attended a part-time course for a diploma in Music Production, which I obtained a well earned merit. Having obtained my G4 Mac and a Yamaha CS1X ,I was locked down in my bedroom studio putting what I had learned at the ACM college down on to the Apple Mac. I quit office work and did not want to go down that road anymore and got a part-time position at Kinetic Records in London. This was good for me to learn about the business in more depth and to obtain some useful contacts to send on finished material for feedback. After a year now and also getting an Akai CD3000XL for my studio, which is the best thing money can buy personally for any studio, just completed about 12 tracks in total. I have sent them to various people like John B, Total Science, Emcee Records and some radio shows within the scene. I am getting mixed reviews good and bad and also have had some of my production played on a radio shows. One radio show of which I was asked to come in to do a interview for was called the Circumference show on www.sbn.co.uk & digital channel 894. I also got employed last year to write for a drum'n bass magazine called Lexicon, which is also available on-line at www.lexiconmag.co.uk . I was a vinyl reviewer for the magazine, along with some artist interviews that I covered from time to time. Last year also did some work for Hospital Records & Urban Takeover, which was good expierence to learn more about the music business side of things. My aims for 2003 are to release some of my production & DJ to spread the sounds of Drum'n Bass World-Wide.
