Jazz trumpeter Jeff Geist is based in S. Florida where he is a perfomer and music educator. He has performed with ...(insert names here). Winner of the prestigious 2007 Rice Krispy Award for Outstanding Jazz Performance and a package of Doublemint Gum for best Hair Style in the Bald Category, his music will most definitely find a place in Who Cares Pedagogy.
Why this name?
In Jazz, it is oftimes difficult to retain the same players from gig to gig. My band is about my sound, my approach, my vision so...all the promo and marketing is focused on me. It makes life so much easier in one sense, but I must perform everytime, even if I'm not particularly in the mood.
Do you play live?
yes! Although I'm very picky about what I play and with whom. Many musicians are more about ego then about art>
If you make it big..?
We have what...2.6 Billion people on the planet right now...every one of them wants to be rich and famous. I really don't care as long as I can play.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Everybody can get their music out there. Still, heavy promotion is essential for success.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of Course!
Your influences?
Chet Baker, Tony Fruscella, Miles Davis, Enrico Rava
Favorite spot?
Anywhere I happen to be playing and everything is right!
Equipment used:
I play on a 60 year old Antoine Cortois imported from France. I love it because of it's rich, dark sound. They used different metals in their horns back then. Everything today is massed produced..not always the best quality. I use a G2 Gustat, Meeuwsen Custom mouthpieces.
Anything else...?
We are all unique...just like everyone else!
