Why this name?
Dave Torbert from the New Riders of the Purple Sage gave me the nickname Rio when I was playing with kingfish and the name stuck hence Dan Rio
Do you play live?
I play solo gigs and also I sit in with a few different bands. I have had a lot of special moments but playing with the late and great Tony Williams world renowned drummer really stands out. Also when I played with the James montgomery band I ahd the opportunity to play with some other great musicians like Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Johnny Johnson drummer for Chuck Berry,Jack Cassidy and Jorma from Hot Tuna and Clarence Clemons.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It gives independents a great opportunity to have thier music heard. It really levels the playing field.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
