NEWS UPDATE: 2.29.04 Cleaner versions of "Breathing Underwater", "Broken Rainbows", and "No Haste Here" have been uploaded.

Off the Stage consists of two members: Cognition & Saga. We have been friends for over 10 years, and making music together since early 1997. We started out making battle raps but quickly grew bored with that world. Our current styles developed over the time period of 2001-early 2002. We self "released" our debut cd "Not Your Ordinary Minds" in a limited run of 100 back in 2001. Since then, Cognition has released two solo projects: "Shattered"(2001) & "theothersideofmyself"(2002), both also in limited runs of 100. Our true debut album is in the works right now (well kinda....). Its called "Evolution", and features production from: Emynd of Vinyl Monkeys (Anticon), Cognition, Auditory, Asiatic, and many more.
Why this name?
Our name is derived from a sociological theory that states: The majority of people are "On the Stage" when out in society, because they are playing various roles such as the role of employee, or boss. However, when people are in their own homes, or amongst close friends and family, they are truly being themselves. They are "Off the Stage". We are the type of people who continue our discussion at the same volume when in an elevator, when most other people either A) Whisper B) Stop talking completely. Thus we dubbed ourselves "Off the Stage", we are always ourselves, weather in the studio, or out at a bar.
Do you play live?
Both of us are in transition periods in our lives. Cognition is just finishing up college, and Saga is a year plus into his new career of airbrushing. At the moment life just doesn't allow for us to tour...we hardly can get together to work on tracks.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
In my opinion the internet should be utilized by every artist. It is a great way to promote yourself, make connections within the industry, and just meet like minded people.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If I could make a living off my art, that would be wonderful. I would not change my sound up to suit a label though. If I could do say what Buck65 did with Warner and retain complete creative control, etc, yeah why not.
Your influences?
Cognition has been a fan of hiphop since 1992 when he was in eighth grade. Since those days, his love of hip-hop has grown and expanded into a love for MUSIC in general. From Bjork, and Radiohead, Anticon, Buck 65, to AFI, Thrice, Thursday, Def Jux and many many more. Our main influence though is evident. Stumbling upon Anticons music in 2000 showed us that music could be made boundry free. I am not ashamed to say that their music (Lyrics, flow, production) has helped us to fall into our own.
