Well, where do i begin. First off, Im just an ordinary native american whos trying to make a living by going to school and going to work, just to pay the bills, put food on the table and keep gas in my ride. haha. typical. Well, honestly, I wanted to take on rapping, as well as making my own beats or performing remixes on popular songs on the mainstream charts. Giving it a lil dance, techno, trance touch to it with my style. I will say this, I really don't like how i sound on the mic, but hey, my voice defines who i am. So i just try not to let it get to me and just make use of the voice i was given. To make it general, im a typical native american with a whole lotta heart and determination.
Why this name?
Hmm...the name, Sheykmeister. Was concieved in late-2003, i guess the main inspiration for the name was from the character "Stifmeister" in them American Pie Movies. I guess Sheykmeister meant the "S" in my older alias, "Lil- S." I guess i matured since then. That was the time.
Do you play live?
No, I just got started. Finally got this going after many many delays and life-changing events. Better late than never...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It actually helps new and unknown artists and bands get noticed and discovered. Take a look at Mike Jones, Afroman, and Sean Kingston to name a few. They was unknown and now they widely-known!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hmm.. it all depends. Maybe....either with Aftermath Entertainment, Cash Money Records, or (yea!) Suburban Noize Records. Once I get far more better with my rapping, talents, etc. Thats a big maybe. I would rather establish my own label and give locals and other talents an oppertunity to shine on my label.
Band History:
Well, since around 2001, i took on writing lyrics, even though they were so off and not rhymning. After I took on my punk persona in 2002, i gave that up until returning to writing lyrics in 2006. Also I started to browse beats and instrumentals from Soundclick, i would download free beats and writing lyrics to various beats that intrigued me. I told my then-girlfriend that I was thinking about taking on rapping and also making beats, which i started to using GarageBand in 2007, but not rapping just yet. In 2008, I was gonna finally start rapping and buying equipment. But a breakup forced me to change directions in my school career and my life plans, also pushing back the rap project another year as i was dispondent to the breakup, and had to rethink my entire plans. Noneotherless, plans fell into place, smoothly. This past year, I finally bought my professional microphone and some computer programs that enable me to drop rhymes onto the beats.
Your influences?
Well, I have two kinds of influences, my musical beat influences are Dr. Dre, Timbaland, 9th Wonder, Mannie Fresh to name a few. For the lyrical side, i would say Atmosphere's Slug, Underrated from Potluck, Eminem, DMX, Too $hort, Nas, and various artists from Suburban Noize Records.
Favorite spot?
Hmm... i would say San Diego or Phoenix. I haven't really traveled much yet.
