FluiD was formed in Chicago, Il. in 2007. It is the solo project of Christophe G. aka The Post-Human Cyborg: afrofuturist, anarchist, composer, cultural-activist, deviant, multi-instrumentalist, sound-artist and vegan. I do all the processing, coding, manipulation, recontextualization, mutation and liquification
Why this name?
I chose the name because it encapsulates my musical life. I have always composed, performed and enjoyed all kinds of different musics. I haven't stuck with one sound or style. So the idea of fluidity, of moving through various sounds, styles, concepts and ideas is something I have always embraced.
Do you play live?
Yes I do play live. All of my shows have been in Chicago, Il.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think what the internet and mp3s have done it to level the distrbution of music. Before the internet the only means of distributing ones' music was through a distributor who would attempt to get your release into various retail outlets. This was a system that worked against the "independent" artist. Often times a retail outlet would refuse to carry an independent release. The "old" way of distributing your music was far from an artist friendly system. Now an artist can record at home and distribute his or her music from "home" as well. All one needs now to distribute music is an internet connection. You still need to effectively promote your work but you no longer need to worry about its' availability. A by-product of mp3s is that CDs no longer have to be manufactured. The results are one less environmentally unsound product needlessly being manufactured!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
No.
Band History:
I am originally from Los Angeles (Leimert Park), Ca., now living and working in Chicago, Illinois. Formerly the keyboardist/bassist for Impulse, D.O.D., Wardrobe Cathedral, Immaculate Corrosion and Drug Of Choice. I also contributed synths and programming to Los Angeles based industrial/goth rock group Die My Darling. Appearing on their debut CD 'Virulent' (Trisol 2002).. I first discovered music through the clarinet, playing the instrument from the age of six years old. I began studying the piano at age ten, studying both classical and jazz musics and later learned the tenor sax, flute and oboe. I also spent two years studying orchestration in college. I think of myself as an "abstract sound sculptor". Sound sculpting is more about creating a mood. It's about creating music that provokes the imagination. I released my first record with Impulse, a four-song EP of electro-funk. 2000 saw the release of the industrial/acid-house/rap collision titled 'Warhol Machine'12" followed that same year by 'The Dream Is the Drug' 12" featuring Tequila Mockingbird. Since that time I have continued to release a large amount of music both as a solo artist (Re: dux tion, subduxtion and FluiD) and collaborator (with Black Saturn, Selbst-Morder and John 3:16) on various independent labels around the world. Encompassing a multitude of styles and influences - techno, jazz, noise, classical avant-garde, hip-hop, psychedelia, metal, dub, early industrial and ambient. As a remixer I have manipulated and re-constructed songs for Ganymede, Fr/action, Heat From A Deadstar, Blood Into Water, One Dead F***, Worms of the Earth and DisinVectant.
