Hi and Welcome to the world of Proxima 4.
For those of yo who don't know, and have'nt been to any other sites about Ambient groove, Ambient Techno or Ambient Dub,
Then this site is for you, perhaps in my small way to have a taste of those genires.

Why this name?
The name Proxima 4 came from a combination of ideas about year dates and planets associated with 'The Terran Trade Authority' which is a syndicate of sci fi and fantasy artists who produce some of the most brilliant images I have can recall, to me it's personal as they were some of the first images in my youth I can recall for encouraging my thoughts about the world beyond this one and the colours of the imagination. (I'm exploring the idea of the working title Proxima 4 being a syndicate also)
Do you play live?
I played live for the first time this year in Glastonbury at the Lalune Cafe, I'm into small venues and sculpting my music around the required tempo for those sought of venues, I'm going to return to Lalune and for an evenings event, to let our hair down a bit more....
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's a comprimise, but very good for a hobbiest musician like myself, and for musicians who like a good deal of self managment into the mix. It looks like lot's of labels, are going down the totally free download web label idea. Though he who dares win's.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Oh..deffinately. but the heat has been taken of the big ones I reckon, little labels with low overheads and a keen sense of business, are also doing well, and will continue to have sucsess if they use new and exciting way's to combine the internet and internet technology, with marketing ideas and service, I feel I would prefer to sign to a label solely for my geneire sometimes, but that has it's own question marks obviously. 'Boltfish recordings' is a really good example of what I mean here, check em out just to see what I mean.
Band History:
Not much, but I have been working on tracks for three or so years, but I am a complete novice to music really, appart from experimenting in my youth with guitars and effects pedals keyboards and any plucking or stikeing objects (for some strange reason) when I was younger, that also sounded pretty awful, But I won't say I no nothing about music, that would'nt be fair, We also had a piano in my parents house when I was young, and I used to sit and try and find harmonies and melodies quietly, I reckon that's why I like Ambient styles of music, there kinda personal..
Your influences?
All music really has had it's influence, 'Peter Gabriel' springs to mind first, because of his pin sharp resentation of synthersizers and ethnic instruments in his early tracks, 'So' is particulary up there in my influence hall, 808 State and there particular take on hard dance and techno allways had me pushing my face into speakers at raves, I like most of there stuff but 'Sunrise' at track on '90' again ranks very hi in influence. Brian Eno is big on my list with 'The Apollo soundtrack' and his sporning of bands like 'The Orb' and there work and collaboration with 'System 7' and others.
Tears for Fears, rank highly because of the sole, and pace at which they released tracks, and the way they pushed there band members to the front, row in the tracks, 'Ian Stanley' the keybordist and his love of the 'Jupiter 8' synth in many TFF tracks allways gives me a bit of an nice 80's buzz.
Most recently though, my direct influence has been 'The Higher Intelligence Agency' if you don't know there work, then get your lugs around them, I hope to work with them one day, But it's just a pipe dream, and I am a bit nervous about contacting them, (now is not the time..) but who knows, maybe ?.
