Why this name?
I was given the name Raze by a breaker I knew back in the day called illboogz who I was in group with back in the early 90s, because I always rocked a bald head.
Do you play live?
Yeah Myself and Lava Flo have done a few gigs, we've done the Medicane bar in Birmingham where we played alongside DJ Krust from the represent Crew, and alot of smaller venues in Birmingham and London, We've got a gig at the Cairo Cafe for Beatroot on the 1st September, And the Birmingham arts Festival on the 9th September.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think the internet has been a good and bad thing for the industry. On The negative side I think illegal downloading has hurt alot of artists financially, and alot of independant record companies and shops have folded due to fall in sales.
On the positive side downloading has increased exposure of unknown artists, and the internet has speeded up the process of you finding out about new underground artists.
Also The internet has given me the ability to work with artists from all over the World, and get my songs heard in places where it would be difficult to get heard in without it.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yeah I would sign with a major label, but its a tough climate at the moment with the industry being in a transition period, and only the few artists at the top making any money.
I would like to retain creative control of what i do and I think that would be hard these days, when the industry just looks at the "Big Tune of the moment and want artists to emulate that, instead of taking the risks companies did with bands in 70s, 80s and early 90s.
Today I think it would be hard for an act to be nurtured the way that groups like U2 were back in the day.
We're living in a time where artists do a video and one album blow up and as soon as they are here they are gone.

Your influences?
My musical influences are primarily hip hop. The First hip hop tune that really got me was the Message by Grandmaster Flash, but wasnt totally submerged in hip hop until what i would call the new school of Acts came out that were using samples like Ultramagnetics, Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, Big Daddy kane, Jungle Brothers, EpMd, Kool G Rap & B.D.P, they we're groups that made say I wanna be an MC. N.W.A, Ice T, Digital Underground, King T, Cypress Hill, Pharcyde, House Of Pain, Snoop, Daz Dillinja, Kurupt, Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Mc Ren, CMW, DJ Quik & Fundboodist were also big inluences.
In the early 90s illboogz put me onto Britcore, I was only really into London Posse, Demon Boyz, Hijack & Caveman from the Uk up to that point, he put me on to Gunshot, Blade, Killa Instinct, Standing Ovation, Bush Killa, Two Tone Committee, Deliverance and First Frontal Assualt.
But I gotta say the most influencial acts on me are De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, 3rd Bass, KMD, Mc Serch, Pete Rock, CL Smooth, Fu schnickens, Das Efx, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Gangstarr, Jeru, Wu Tang Clan(early), Mobb Deep, Nas, Jay Z.
Also into newer UK acts like Yungun, Jesht, Aspects, Mark B, Skinnyman, Yogi, Gnostix, Mr Thing & Harry Love.
Drum N Bass was big influence acts like Goldie, Bukem, Roni Size, Adam F, Dillinja, Usaul Suspects, D kay, Keaton, Pendullum, Concord Dawn,High Contrast, London Electricity, Peshay, Conrad & Shy FX.
Left feild acts like massive Attack, RJD2, DJ Shadow all influenced me.
Alot of old soul like marvin gaye, Minnie Ripperton, Candi Staton, Grover Washington Jr, Roy Ayers, Bill Withers, Brothers Johnson, Rick James,
Stax records to name a few.
