The ghost of Robb Nell orginally hails from Cincinnati, Ohio. The name comes from the fact that his father, Robert Nelson Wilson, died when he was an infant. His mother constantly reminded him that he was a mirror image of him, almost like a ghost. He began rapping at the age of 10. He was never one to take it seriously because "nobody ever makes it from Cincinnati". With that in mind, he continued to make music "just for fun" for his friends to listen to in the car or while "baggin up their work". During this time, after college, he began running in the very streets he went to college to escape. He did shows locally and nationally opening for some heavy weights such as Big Daddy Kane. The realization that this lifestyle was leading nowhere would eventually lead to him to leaving Cincinnati for South Florida for a change of scenery. Once down there, he embarked on trying to form a label. From that venture came "A day in the Life", which was well received amongst industry insiders and led to performing on the future flava stage at the Hot 107 birthday bash in Atlanta in 2002 and an offer from a major label. While working on his next album, he lost his first son in child birth. The lost devastated him and would put an indefinite halt on his pursuit of music. He is now back on the block with same intensity and creativity that "made you look" in the first place.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It allows artists an outlet to show their talent to the public without the help or control of a major.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Yes, but the money would have to be enough to change my life. I'm not starvin anymore.
