I think record companies have a lot to lose, but artists don't. Especially for smaller/indie type artists downloading is only going to mean free exposure. People aren't going to go spend $18 on a CD that they're unsure about, but to test things for free is never a problem. I think file swapping is just the evolution of the industry and it's beautiful. I'd rather reach 1,000 people for $0 than 100 for $10 each, if you know what I mean.
