Blue Menagerie is all about free music and performance.

It is an acoustic project putting together all of the best material I have written under one collective name. It is basically a life's story about my experiences, observations and opinions.

The Blue Menagerie vision started about 10 years ago and I have songs that have lasted that long. Although my style has changed over the years and my writing has matured, sometimes the early raw, naive stuff is some of the most original you write. Who was it that said all music is either plagerism or revolution...?
Why this name?
The inspiration was "The Glass Menagerie" play by Tenessee Williams which I saw at school which inspired me to begin writing.

The word Menagerie means "collection of animals", or "diverse group". I often see each song as being its own animal and different enough to be diverse. Blue can also be another word for sombre, and not just the colour. My songs are ofren reflective and melancholy.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think its great compared to 10 years ago, since now the opportunities of getting noticed is huge, and even those who do this for fun (like me) can now get their music heard and on desktops around the world.
Also, it allows online collabrations for people with studios anywhere in the world.

I hope to reach as many people as possible. The newsgroup rec.music.makers.songwriting is a place I review music and is an excellant place to get feedback on songs.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
The reason I would sign a contract is to reach even more people with my music. I would however be very cautious as I believe that this sort of thing can change you: the politics involved, having to deliver/write music under contract, being told what to do and how/where/when to do it and lastly making a load of money for business people who are just interested in what bands can make money. It would have to be right for me so that ultimately the music doesn't suffer as this is the most important thing.
Your influences?
My early influneces are Hard Rock/Metal, which probably gave me my rhythm. My writing is acoustic and inspired by bands such as Sister Hazel, K's Choice, Dave Matthews, Pat McGee, Jars of Clay, Counting Crows, Del Amitri, Hootie and the blowfish, Ben Harper, John Butler Trio

My guitar heros are Mark Knopfler, Eddie Van Halen and Ace Frehley.
Equipment used:
Applause summit series semi-acoustic guitar (7 years)
Washburn rhino electric (9 years)
Yamaha Bass (6 months)
MXL990 condenser mic (Acoustic guitar)
SM-57 Shure mic (Vocals)
Behringer mixer
Anything else...?

Please feel free to leave a message for me about anything on my message board.

Hope you enjoy the music!
Peace
