INSTATUTION
NEWS   Band Philosophy
The INSTATUTION was officially formed during the previous millennium, for one purpose : To use musical interactions between bandmembers and the listeners as a platform for launching unstable people into mental breakdown. Affected (or “institutionalized”) patrons may exhibit symptoms instantaneously, although most will feel their grasp on reality slipping over a period of weeks or months. Sure, it just sounds like catchy rock and roll, with no apology to the offended ear and great empathy for the engaged, but a door to another reality lies there, undiscovered but ajar, in your mind. Common bouts of Déjà vu. Crystallization of the most complicated dilemma, there, in the lines on your hand, or in the struggles of an insect to traverse a pane of glass. The burden of the gift of prophesy.

It’s not necessarily a BAD thing. But be warned. The effects are irreversible.

And there is a subconscious primal desire to force that door a little wider. Just to get a glimpse of what lies beyond, within. Yes. Just a bit more…

Welcome to the website of INSTATUTION! We were an original rock/blues band based in Marlboro, Mass. Enjoy the tunes, but the band is now defunct. Gone the way of the Dodo. It's all over but the dirty dishes. More music can be found under the name Institution here on Soundclick.
However, some of the band members are currently working on forming a new band as of Oct 2006. Stay tuned.
Why this name?
Merriam-Webster Online: Institution
1 : an act of instituting : ESTABLISHMENT
2 a : a significant practice, relationship, or organization in a society or culture ; also : something or someone firmly associated with a place or thing b : an established organization or corporation (as a college or university) especially of a public character; also : ASYLUM 4

So we are an instant institution, the INSTATUTION. Although most institutions are there to normalize a facet of life here in the USA, we are abnormal. Maybe we lean a bit too close to the last part of the official definition : Asylum
Do you play live?
We did. The new (unnamed) band will play Open Mics in towns such as Marlborough, Medway, Hudson, and soon, Boston/Cambridge. Every live performance is special, but the best part of each show is the first celebration slurp of beer after we've hooked the crowd.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
1. It makes it easy for the world to listen to you, especially friends and club owners.
2. It levels the playing field on a non-commercial level. You can listen to anything, or stop listening to it, in a moment. You can search for what lights your bulb, it doesn't have to be a pre-pressed giveaway CD/tape that the record store decided to allow on the countertop by the register. Not much choice "back then".
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Too late...
Band History:
Also known as "The Institution", the roots of the band go back to 1994, when guitarist Harry Bachman and bassist Steve Rap began laying down the foundations of the band's current sound. The duo played open mics until joined by drummer Keel a couple years later. The trio was primarily an improvisational jam band until the additions of vocalist Pardymann and guitarist Greg Bachman. As a five man band, many of the currently played songs were written. The band played open mics and several shows during this time, also. Greg left the band in 2001 to pursue other musical interests. The band added guitarist Ernie Anbert, whose enthusiasm for the music and talent on the guitar have made a big contribution to the band's sound.
Then, in October 2005 our lead singer Pardyman went to Canada. We have not seen him since. Not even a phone call or email. So that's it, the Instatution is done.

Anything else...?
Yes. It has come to our attention that some people are basically unstable and are pretty easy to brainwash. And those who seek to be "instatutionalized" have a music-shaped hole in their heart and a beer-shaped hole in their head.
