Well Dementra , was the name I had in my head right from the time I was in school .I thought of it as something that spelt out “originality” and “brutality” . I felt it was a kick ass name ,never heard off before and also thought I would use it to name my band if I ever had one .So finally when I decided to form a band in the 10th standard , 1998 , there was no other option on my mind but DEMENTRA . I founded Dementra , with the help from my close school friend Rahul D’Souza and my brother Kevin D’Souza .Dementra was a 3 piece band then .Ashwin Thakkar and Darshan Thakkar joined the line up in 2000.

Regardless of what people think , Dementra as a band have always gone ahead by doing things their own way .We have refused to perform at so many Gigs, which many other Indian bands would have longed to perform at , if given the opportunity . We only use the net , cause we feel it’s a bigger stage than any other stage out there and right now we are it’s top performers out there compared to other Indian bands .Our audiences there , are much larger than any other live gig out here and are more open minded and appreciative towards our kind of (original) music.

The future is very unpredictable , who knows what’s in store for us . Let’s be honest here , for an independent artist to release an album in India , it takes a lot of self – finance, it’s not an easy task until you are offered a record deal . Mid-Day Metro released the first album for us , We were very fortunate .But this does not happen all the time .So maybe when we have enough finance to release an album or happen to get a record deal offer, and when we are in a position to totally finance our next album , we will definitely release another album .Only time will tell .

“ D E M E N T R A ” well the name sound’s pretty weird right ! . Well it all started out in 1998 . Brian . D the Frontman of the band the guy responsible for the Band’s Name, Music , and Lyric’s created the Ultimate Terror Machine “DEMENTRA” with the help from friend Rahul .D . They together brought in guitarist Darshan . T , skull crushing drummer Ashwin . T and Kevin . D who added his touch of evil to the band .” DEMENTRA” a 4 – membered Project which spelt attitude came into existence . As far as music is concerned DEMENTRA term their music as “Mystery Metal” a blend of Black , Trash , Death Metal and Grunge . A Total new genre of a trash form [music] to experience with mind ripping and deep hitting lyric’s . They were to release an EP titled “ PIN DROP VIOLENCE ” in 2000, but did not do so since a Friend from an upcoming new age outfit was inspired by the name and decided to use OUR EP title to name his band “ Pin Drop Violence” . DEMENTRA are a band that totally believe in originality [ ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS ] . Some of their originals are “ Mind of War ”, “Bloodmoon” , “ Hate” , “ Hands of the Enemy” and “ Strangled Hope” . DEMENTRA released their first album titled “DOORWAY TO DEMENTION” in DEC .2001 through their own Lable “DEMENTRAX RECORDS ” in association with MP3.COM . The album was produced by the band itself and a few close friends of the band . As far as live acts are concerned the band does not perform live, they are an underground [NONSTAGED PROJECT] metal band and prefer to keep their music underground . They prefer to be different from other bands and allow the net to be their weapon to help the Underground surface . Besides the band members have always considered their music as a “Hobby[ Interest]” never a “Profession” . As far as popularity goes this band became the First , Youngest and Only Indian metal band to be featured on the International “ Metal Rules Magazine” , “The May Fair Mall” , the “Metal Hammer” , “ Fistfull of Metal” and many other websites . DEMENTRA are also one of the bands selected from Asia to be on the “THE UNOFFICIAL TRIBUTE TO JUDAS PRIEST” Compilation CD . DEMENTRA are influenced by Judas Priest , Cannibal Corpse , Slayer , Rage Against The Machine , Sepultura , My Dying Bride , Kreator , Dimmu Borgir , Six Feet Under , Nirvana , Soundgarden , Anthrax , Metallica , Megadeth , Iron Maiden and many others .
