Learn a little more about Billy by reading the following brief interview...
Why this name?
I struggled for awhile wondering if I should choose a stage name, especially since my last name isn't all that easy to remember... but, in the end I decided to just use my own name. All the "stage names" I would think of just seemed dumb, and it wasn't me.
Do you play live?
In my college years I played live a lot, because I had time. However, now that I'm in the 'real world' with a 'real job' it's very difficult to play live. At this point I don't know if I ever will again. It is sad to think about, but, I still play and record my music periodically... plus I spend a lot of my time now helping other bands/artists out with my site IndieShows.net.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The Internet has made it a lot easier for the little guy to make money and get his/her music out there to the world. Without the Internet, I wouldn't have any place to share my music. On the downside, the music industry is now more competitive than ever! All in all, the Internet is a huge positive for the music industry in my opinion.
Band History:
I've been playing and writing my own music since high school. I've played at many different coffee shops, bars and venues in the greater Atlanta, GA area. In 2002-2003 I was a runner up in the songoftheyear.com contest and I made it to the top 3 at a local open mic competition at Eddie's Attic. Things were going well. I then joined forces with some college friends and formed a band called Chasing Katie. We quickly wrote over 20 songs and recorded a 13 track album called "Holt Road". After playing many popular venues in Atlanta, such as 10 High and the Masquerade, we eventually decided to part ways in November of 2006. In November of 2008, my band Chasing Katie decided to get back together, minus one of the original members. We played one show in April of 2009 and since then have decided to, not break up, but take a break because of personal reasons and the fact that we couldn't find a free place to practice. Right now I am going to focusing on my indie music site, IndieShows, instead of my own personal music.
Your influences?
Everyone and everything! My Dad, a musician himself, was the person that first influenced me to pick up a guitar and play. As far as other artists that influence me... I really like John Lennon, Neil Young, The Beatles, Snow Patrol, Damien Rice, Silver Sun Pickups, stuff like that...
Equipment used:
Usually just me and a Martin guitar.
