Robin And The Giant are a duo whose primary target audience are children and parents. We have been involved in children's entertainment, mostly music and radio, since 1987. We write and produce songs and stories and we also write the dialogue included on our radio shows and CDs.
Music
This is a song about life.
This is a song about the town we live in.
The kids learn that their elderly neighbor, Mrs. Freeman, has moved to a retirement home.
A beautiful acoustic guitar/vocal song written and performed by The Giant! Stay in school and the world will open up for you!
Okay, it was Show-And-Tell in third grade and, well, the hamsters, you know Dave and Bruce, well they got out and, well...they left a trail of...you know...poop!
Remember those days? Seems like yesterday. Maybe it was!
This is a song for and about the Rainbow River in Dunnellon, Florida. The Queen Of The Rainbow is a local beauty contest and the girl who is selected symbolically represents the 'guardian' or 'protector' of the river.
This is a traditional French children's folk song
Fun happens whether it rains or it shines! Make the BEST of every day in every way!
One of our favorite Robin And The Giant Songs!
This is our patriotic song
This is a true story of a father and son who were swept out to sea, eight miles, and were rescued the next morning off the coast of New Smyrna Beach, Florida
A song about a cat and a fish. We presume it is a goldfish. We're not sure. It just seems that way. The cat is, well, we don't know what kind of cat. So just accept the fact that this is a song about a cat and a fish. Okay?
This might be a 'Wisconson-ism', we're not sure.
Just a fun song, leftover from a fun time.
This song was running in my head when I woke up and wouldn't go away so I wrote much of it down early in the morning and then later that day told Robin about it. The next day we finished writing it and here it is.
A fun song we wrote in February of 1990. This version was recorded on April 9, 2007.
Boys and girls are different, they say that's what spins the world. And if it spins on differences, let's make one.
You can be and do anything in the playground!
Winter is magical, but even magic holds myths! Ever wonder about ...?
Nothing warms the heart of a child more than to have his/her parents lovingly involved in all that they do and supporting all of their interests and endeavors!
Dedicated to those who participate in the Special Olympics.
Why this name?
Well...I guess it was because Robin's name is "Robin" and because I am pretty large. So it just made sense. The idea actually came to me while showering (Don't tell the kids. I wouldn't want the visual to scare them!!)
Do you play live?
Sometimes. In the early days we played live constantly. Lately we've been talking about doing more live shows again now that our children are grown. We'll see.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
For us it has been wonderful! I guess the changes are primarily in the ability for a musician, songwriter, or recording artist/band to be heard by a remote audience.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Goodness, yes! Well...on second thought, it depends on the deal.
Band History:
We started playing elementary schools in the late 80's. Then we had an opportunity to create radio specials for children on Digital Cable Radio. Those specials have been re-mixed and are available on CD.
Your influences?
As a children's group I really don't think we've had much musical influence. Speaking for myself ("The Giant" aka Larry Whitler)I think pop music from the late 60s thru the 70s influenced me the most. Also, movie soundtracks seemed to make an impression on me. Robin MacBlane was more influenced by classical composers and heavy metal groups (what a mix, huh?!!).
Favorite spot?
Hmmm...can we have more than one? I fell in love with Santa Monica, California many years ago. But I think we both love the state of Florida. Oh, and I am very fond of the mountains in North Carolina. Robin is from Wisconsin and I am from New York originally so I think those places could be included among our favorites.
Equipment used:
I guess we qualify for this question. We use an acoustic guitar, an electronic keyboard, a 4-track analog recorder, and of course, a PC.
