If there is one word in the English language to describe Terry Dennis, it would be âœpersistentâ쳌. After 19 years of chasing his dream up and down music row in Nashville Tn. , Terry is no where near packing up and calling it quits. Terry says, ✠Iâve put in too much time and effort to just give up, Iâll be here when my ship comes in âœ. Terryâs love for country music began at a very early age. When he was only five years old, he heard ✠Green, Green Grass of Home ✠playing on the radio. This was his first big inspiration. Since that time, his dream of becoming a successful country music singer has been a priority in his life. Terry gives his step - father credit for encouraging him to write songs. ✠After writing my first song in 1978 with my step - father, I was hooked, ✠he recalls. ✠I knew then that I needed to move to Nashville âœ. It wasnât until May 27th, 1987 that he finally loaded up all his personal belongings and headed for Music City. The first few years in Nashville proved to be a struggle for the young entertainer. Through hard work, dedication, determination and a strong love for the music business, his persistence began to pay off. June 1st, 1991 Terry accepted a position as staff writer at Polygram Music which lasted two and a half years. There he had the opportunity to write with some well known successful songwriters such as Tracy Lawrence, Melba Montgomery, Leona Williams, Mel Besher, Tim Johnson, Ronnie Scaife, Randy Archer, just to name a few. Terry has had songs recorded (but not released) by Leona Williams, Daryle Singletary, Jeff Carson and Ken Mellons. Terry eventually opened his own publishing company, What Is Written Music, for the soul purpose of pitching his own song catalog. Around that same time Terry was introduced to Bo Loeser , the president of Music City Attractions. Terry was hired as a staff singer and opened shows for many of country musicâs favorite stars. Terry has shared the stage with top name stars such as Randy Travis, Vince Gill, Tracy Lawrence, Willie Nelson, Marie Osmond, Gene Watson, John Conley, The Statler Brothers and various Grand Ole Opry stars. Special performances for Terry include guest spots at the world famous Grand Ole Opry House, the nostalgic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and The Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree. He Headlined the Collier County Fair in Naples Florida in 1998 and 1999. Special awards include third place in the country category of Billboardâs 2nd Annual Songwriting Contest where Terry won his first guitar. He also made it to the semi - finals in Nashvilleâs Big Break Contest in 1991 which was aired in 43 states. He won first place in the 2004 Southwest Florida Colgate Competition at the Lee County Fair in Fort Myers, Florida and first place in numerous local talent shows. Terryâs currently signed on as a staff writer with Makinâ Progress Publishing and thatâs exactly what heâs doing. ✠Iâve got a good feeling in my heart that all my hard work is about to pay off âœ, says Terry. ✠God has really been blessing me lately with some great opportunities âœ. Terryâs drive and determination to succeed is an inspiration to us all. Terryâs advice to others seeking a career in country music is to âœbelieve in yourself, put your faith in God and be patientâœ. I Play Out Occasionally but Mostly Getting Up and Singing A Few Songs With My Buddies In The Bars On Broadway Here In Nashville.
My biggest musical influences are Scotty Strother (my step-father whom I co-wrote my first song), Gene Watson and Randy Travis. My Mom is definitely my biggest personal influence. She raised me and my brothers on a waitress pay without any help from our dad and never once complained!!! She's my hero !!!
