Captain Bravo
I am a pseudo-medieval musician, scribe and artificer. With layered levels of simple instruments, my sounds are often uniquely archaic. While some of my music is entirely original, most of my numbers are my personal arrangements of renaissance and medieval melodies from antiquity. There's much more information to be found about me on my web site at
Band/artist history
I grew up with musical instruments all around. I didn’t take it very seriously until my teens when I learned to play the guitar like millions of other youngsters across the known universe.. Heck, I probably don’t take it seriously now. Any ‘talent’ I may have inherited came from my grandfather on my mother’s side. Now, I have a tendency to approach new instruments harmonically, beginning with standard tunings... first looking for simple chord patterns, then expanding from there.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Sometimes I have been known to play live, usually as a wandering minstrel. In this venue, there are only certain songs that I feel hold the spectator’s attention. I find that as I wander, I might as well be playing scales as singing something authentic, so I tend to wander in the key of G.
Your musical influences
Simple harmonies built into complex layers are what I like to hear. My major influence is from church choir and praise music. I find a lot of Renaissance style chamber music leaves me a bit cold, so I try to personalize it with a bit of bold or even brash instrumentation.
What equipment do you use?
I play a variety of instruments, primarily acoustic. An abridged list includes Acoustic Bass Guitar, Autoharp, Djembe (large and small), Mandolin, Octave Mandolin, Guitar, Lap dulcimer, Tambourines (with cymbals and without), Multi Tone Wood Block, Guiro, Clave, Rain Stick, Nose Flute and Kalimba. I recently acquired an old German Bass Lute as well, and eventually I will master this Oud that I have sitting in my music closet.
Anything else?
I'm looking for a simple and concise definition for the word segnory.
