Band/artist history
After a long winter of feeding the fires in the deep, dark caverns of Yar Scabar, the Pups emerged with a shiny, magical disk that plays music from a strange box. And, oh, the music that you will hear. Some will make you laugh, some will make you cry, some will stir the fires of your very soul, while yet others will take you to back to far away places to a time that has yet to pass. Ahh, GutterPups. 16th Century Rock. An interesting concept. Johnny Red has been playing and writing like a madman, and unsuccessfully trying to invent a device that will keep his guitars from smoking and melting down. Carmine the Brewmaster (Ken Northrup) keeps the grog overflowing in our tankards while bringing up the deep with his thunderous bass guitar and his bow-wow-bowser low-end vocals. Mitch (Brian) the Miller has been beating and stretching his skin all winter, keeping the girls dancing around the campfire. And Walter der Rattenfanger (Wally Jarvis), being an indirect descendant of the Pie-eyed-Piper of Hamlyn Town, has been doing a fine job of keeping the rat population down to manageable numbers, although we have had a problem of them running up our pant legs. This has caused us to keep bells on our ankles and our pants tucked into our boots in order to avoid rats nests being built in unmentionable places. Our NFG, Volt Fiddler (Sarana Verlin) was found floating way out at sea, strapped down to several planks of wood. From the deck of the boat, we could see her wet, clingy clothes, twinkling eyes, and her most sensuous smile. We hauled her aboard the HMS GutterPup and re-hydrated her with Carmine's special brew. Sarana, still in her delirium, told us that she is an Elf of the deep forests and had been kidnapped by Pirates and Scalawags and was bound to latched planks, and taken to sea. The night before they would have their way with her, she silently worked her way over the side of the boat, boards and all, becoming a distant spot in the salt sea, and floated on the boards with the trade currents for days. Several days after we pulled Sarana from the drink, we decided to release her from the bonds that looked so good on her. Once untied, Sarana produced a magical 5 string violin from seemingly nowhere, and started playing the most enchanting, haunting, and seductive sounds. As if she were a gift from the Gods, the Gutterpups soon found that the combination of all the instruments was indeed a most interesting blend. Then again, we may have fallen under her spell and this entire scenario could also be a trick or a dream that Sarana has conjured up in our heads, but this is the story and I'm sticking to it! Nonetheless, Sarana seems to enjoy her place on the stage, and in the hearts of the Gutterpups, as well as being tied up. The GutterPups ALWAYS enjoy the sight of dancing Gypsy girls, so anywhere and anytime you hear us play, feel free to join in the throng.
