Perth, Australia, guitarist Greg Bowles keeps it stark on his sharp, tight blues compositions. He can thump it out with a full, modern blues band, but he's also a highly skilled picker on his National resonator guitar, evoking the sweaty, swampy tradition of the Delta Blues.
Band/artist history
After playing in duos and bands for a few years I just got fed up with the music I was doing. I have always loved blues music so in order to do the music I love the way I think it should sound, I decided to go solo. This was in 1996. I had owned my national resonator guitar for a couple of years. The bottleneck style really suited me and I've been playing bottleneck ever since.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes i do play live, I have a regular gig at a local tavern and i also do as many Festivals as i can & some busking in the summer.
Your musical influences
I have to many to mention really but all the Delta Blues Guys like Son House, Bukka White, Fred McDowell, Charlie Patton, Tommy Johnson, Willie Brown, Robert Johnson and some contemperary musos such as Johnny Winter, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Eric Sardinas, Cory Harris, Bob Brozman etc.
What equipment do you use?
National Jazz Blues guitar, Donmo Resonator guitar, Seagull S6 Folk for fingerpicking stuff, Ellis Stompbox, Rode Nt3 for miking guitars, Macintyer feather pickups for guitar amplification and Diamond bottleneck slides.
