Actually, we're a British Psychedelic band that got stuck in Boston. You see our drummer bought the tickets, and his cockney is so thick they misunderstood him and gave us one way tickets. We decided to stay here at least until we get deported, because the last time this happened we were stranded in India for 3 months, and I am not going to use my own money to bail out these blighters again. I do not actually write the songs, they write me. I am just a vessel for the creative flux of the universe. I hear colours. I live on a deeper plane than most people, so the spirits just use me as their representative. --Oliver
Band/artist history
1973: Oliver Towne is born in Stafford-stratfordshire upon Avon-tyne. Oliver and his Mum and Da move to Mumbai. Oliver is raised with a Hindi Nanny, and learns of the Buddha. The Dalai Lama annoints his forehead on a visit to tibet. Childhood ensues. 1980: At the age of 7, Oliver is visited in a dream by "The Shaman," his spirit guide and realizes his druidic orgins. Spiritual awakening ensues. 1985: Oliver picks up the guitar, and songs start to flow out. Through meditation and yoga, he encourages the cosmic flux to flow from his very pores. He learns to live and walk on a deeper plane, a sort of an astral journey. Songwriting ensues. 1989: Oliver is introduced to LSD and other psychotropics, further enhancing his connection to the Oneness of all, or That Which We Cannot See. Inner doors open. Spinning and manaical laughter ensue. 1993: Oliver Towne and Noah Vale meet in a Bath Pub. Drunkenness ensues. 1995: Oliver and Noah encounter Lester Ismore on the street in Staffordshire, dirty and homeless. They take him in and clean him up before they realize that he is a gifted soundsmith on the electric guitar. Oliver switches to electric guitar, Noah buys a Rickenbacker bass guitar with money from unknown (and dodgy) origin. Band Practice ensues. 2000: After many unremarkable drummers and percussionists, and a short experiment with electronic drums and a dancing hindu guru, an ad is taken out in The London Times, and a drummer for hire is found. Scott Freigh does not like the bandmates or the music, but with Oliver's monetary resources, he is procured for the band. He is the paid professional, and as long as his cheques are valid, he stays. Pub shows ensue, often misunderstood. They are not a skiffle band. 2005: Oliver Towne and the Pondhoppers cross the Atlantic for two shows in Boston, and to see Oliver's friend from college, Josh Bloomer (who now manages the band). Scott Freigh procures the tickets over the telephone, and somehow mistakenly purchases one-way tickets. Oliver and the Boys play the shows, and after much infighting, decide to stay in Boston until they are deported, which means free airfare back to Heathrow. Oliver refuses to pay out of pocket, and besides, most of his trust fund is in Rupees, and the exchange rate is much too complicated. Oliver records demos in Josh's basement studio, and a phenomenon is set in motion. More drunkenness ensues. 2006: YOU find Oliver Towne, and get to touch on that Deeper Level. . .
