I do a mix of acoustic based ballads and pop songs with the emphasis on strong melodies and good lyrics. I try to keep things energetic but quite like sad and thoughtful songs too. I love the groove of making music.
Nigel Grimshaw-Jones is a singer songwriter who has released a unique recording of original songs. Gentle lyrical ballads, catchy rocking beats, and an emotive vocal reminiscent of Crowded House, taking the listener on a trip through a landscape of eternal possibilities.
Produced by the excellent Sam McNally (ex Stylus) and Song 1st Productions the CD harnesses the exceptional musical talents of Jamie Wilson on Guitar, Peter Cupples and Jo Elms on backing vocals, Lewis Pragasam on Drums and Sam himself on Keyboards to create a totally professional sound.
Throughout 30 years in the music industry Sam has worked extensively with Tim and Neil Finn, Johnny Farnham, Air Supply, Marcia Hines, Dave Dobbyn, Sharon OÕNeill, Girlfriend, Seals and Crofts and numerous jazz legends including Louis Shelton and Dave Koz. A longtime friend of NigelsÕ, Sam was inspired by the unique sound of his compositions.
This debut album Laughing in My Mind was conceived and produced in a remarkably short time, from the mind of an artist that was long overdue. Although he now resides in London, Nigel is originally from Auckland New Zealand, the home of Split Enz and Tim and Neil Finn (Crowded House), where he sang in various bands in his youth before leaving the idea of a career in music behind him. His Auckland music contemporaries namely John Quigley (Nairobi trio) and Ben Staples (Wooden Tops) have continued to make music to the present day both in New Zealand and overseas. Being the ÔSyd BarrettÕ of the band, Nigel has taken a good fifteen years to make his musical contribution.
The demo album provided here is a compliation of four songs that, while strong are not necesarily the best songs on the CD. They are however indicative of the range, musically and lyrically.
Nigel can best be contacted on nigelgrimshawjones@mac.com an email address that works all over the world.

Sure do. At the moment Im doing loads of open mics because I dont have a band yet but I'd be happy doing any kind of gig.
Anything form the late 60's 70's and 80's and any well written song with good rhythm, words, vocal and feeling.
