People usually associate the state of Kansas with wheat, Dorthy and Toto, sometimes barbecue, and tornados. But soon, they will know it as the hometown of one of the music industry's greatest up and coming musician, producer and songwriter.
W. Timothy Bailey, Jr. first fell in love with music at the tender age of 3, beating pots and pans with wooden spoons. By 5th grade, he was writing lyrics, and by 6th, he was making tracks when not practicing violin or viola.
Timothy moved to Louisville, KY in '99 where he studied at the Youth Performing Arts School for two years, and graduated from Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in Kansas in 2002. Prior to moving to Los Angeles in 2004, Timothy studied music technology for two years at the Kansas City Kansas Community College where he also sharpened his jazz chops. The young and hungry musician had also placed tracks with the classic R&B group Bloodstone, and was a first call bassist on the Kansas City gospel scene, where he accompanied gospel greats Richard Smallwood, Dr. Bobby Jones, Brent Jones and Kim Burrell among others.
In 2005, Timothy graduated from the Los Angeles Music Academy in Pasadena, where he furthered his bass studies on a full scholarship. While in Los Angeles, he's been blessed to share the stage and television screen with artists like Tank, Will Downing, Brian McKnight, Mary Mary, Leela James, J*Davey, Rahsaan Patterson, Rah Diggah, The X Clan, Sy Smith, Russell Taylor, etc. He's played on spot dates and tours with artists like smooth jazz pianist Marcus Johnson, R&B vocalist/actor Tyrese Gibson, songwriter and vocalist Gary Taylor, Academy Award Winner/R&B superstar Jamie Foxx, and dynamic veterans Billy Davis and Marilyn McCoo of 5th Dimension. In 2006, Timothy toured with the NAACP Award-winning stage production, "U Don't Know Me - The Musical". Lately the bassist has been playing and recording with some of LA's most notable musicians like Cassandra O'Neal, Paul Jackson, Jr., John "Jubu" Smith, Eddie Brown, Charlie Bereal, Craig Brockman, Donald Hays, Terrace Martin, Nisan Stewart, Ronald Bruner, Jr. and Tony Royster, Jr.
To date, the 24 year-old, who now goes by "Twizz" or "t.bailey", has placed songs on highly respected major and independant label albums. He has two songs on Mims "Music Is My Savior" album released on Capitol, one song on R&B vet Rahsaan Patterson's "Wines and Spirits" album and a song on actress/gospel vet Tamela Mann's "The Master Plan" CD. Twizz was heavily involved in a gospel project that was nominated for 3 Stellar Awards in 2006. His production work will be featured in future episodes of "CSI Miami", and has gotten him attention from FoxxKing Entertainment and Bug Music, who signed the budding producer to a publishing deal in January 2008. Twizz' name and production company âœTooTwizzlin Productionsâ쳌 can be found along the pages of Billboard, the Source, and Soultracks.com.
To see Timothy in action, you can catch him worshiping at Community Bible Church in Pasadena, CA every Sunday where he serves as Musical Director. Every other Sunday night, you can find him in the house band "The Signature" for Soul Expressions at the Temple Bar in Santa Monica, CA. On Tuesdays, Twizz is in the house band at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood, CA, and on Wednesdays at the Cozyâs Bar and Grill in Sherman Oaks, CA. Or simply look out for him coming soon to a city near you.
My musical influences are well-sought after producers, like Quincy Jones, James Poyser, Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell, Rich Harrison, Andre Harris and Vidal Davis, T. Boy, Tommy Sims, Dr. Dre, etc. I love the musical styles of artists like Kim Burrell, Beyonce, Jill Scott, Dave Hollister and Tonex, just to name a few. You'll hear a little bit of each of these in my music.
