Glenn Allen is a California original. Born and raised in Sacramento, he comes from a family steeped in musical tradition. His grandmother was a singer and pianist and his uncle is a professional drummer. Glenn carries on the practice today as an emerging singer songwriter with an original and distinctive sound. His voice is gentle yet strong and his lyrics are reflective, dealing with personal life changes and relationships. His music is textured with lush harmonies, robust guitar work, and melodies that draw the listener in. Glenn started playing drums when he was 12 years old. At age 17, he also picked up the guitar and then piano- and almost immediately began writing songs. Not long after high school, with numerous bands expanding his repertoire and deepening his performance experience, he formed a Top 40 band in the Sacramento area. Soon, he was out front playing guitar and singing backup. He quickly became the band's primary songwriter penning many original works. It wasn't long after that when Glenn moved to Los Angeles to further hone his skill as a songwriter and producer and attended the Musician's Institute where he studied audio engineering and perfecting his knowledge of music production. In the summer of 2007, Glenn began recording in his home studio with bassist Wayne Lothian (English Beat, General Public) and later drummer Chris O'Brien (The Lift, David Tyson) was brought in to lend his powerful drum style to the mix. Additional engineering was done by Zoran Todorovic who has worked on projects for Seal, The Eagles Randy Meisner and many others at Sonic Farm Recording Studio. The tracks were honed further with Grammy nominated engineer and producer Michael Vail Blum (Madonna, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson) at Titan Music in Studio City, Ca. Now residing in Seattle, Glenn is preparing for the release and support of his debut independent album. Featured songs from his forthcoming CD can be heard on the music page of this website. Band/artist history
Band Members are: Glenn Allen- Guitar and Vocals Kyle Knowlton- Bass Aaron Barber- Drums
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, in and around the Seattle area.
Your musical influences
I always hesitate at this question. I draw from a wide variety of artists- and it may just be an element of their music I draw from. When I think of who my influences are, and then listen to a song of mine, I find it hard to say who or what exactly was in mind at the time. If I had to attach names, I would say everyone from Seal to Sting and the Police, Howie Day to Duncan Sheik, James Taylor to Lyle Lovett. I'm kinda scattered.
What equipment do you use?
I use Sonar and Pro Tools, a few outboard preamps (UA 610 Trident S20 and Yamaha I88x), Nuemann U87ai, Rode Classic , BLUE Baby Bottle, Rode nt5's and Apogee converters. For guitars I played a fender strat, tele, PRS Soapbar Maple, and Univox Les Paul. Amps used are a Budda Superdrive 30, Mesa F30, Rivera Knucklehead II and an Epiphone Valve Standard. I also use a Taylor 510 ce and a Yamaha Motif for keys.
Anything else?
"Over and Over"- Reached #1 in its first week of release on the Soundclick.com charts and remains a Top 50 song ever since. "Just for Once", "Safe Here", and "This Love" all hit #3 on the Soundclick charts and remain in the Top 100.
