Funny what goes thru your mind
when you get stuck in line
behind an old yellow school bus

Thought about my best friend
the way we were back then
man, they broke the mold when they made us

we were rock stars
drove fast cars
we were Frank and Jesse James
superheros, G.I. Joes
being all that we could be
ruled a world of make believe
from our yellow limosine

Back when we were riding on that bus
back when hope and dreams
were just a part of us
somewhere down the road
we finally grew up
riding that old yellow bus

New bus, new school, new year
heart pounding in my ears
last place on earth I want to be

You smiled moved over fast
made a face, made me laugh
said here's a place right next to me

and I wondered if they found my gum
underneath the drivers seat
or the homework, that I lost,
or the picture you drew of me.
do they still play make believe
and wonder what will be

Back when we were riding on that bus
back when hope and dreams

somewhere down the road
we finally grew up

Three miles back I missed my turn but it's ok.
Found dreams I thought I'd lost along the way.
