Steven West has been involved in the Canadian Music scene for many years. From garage bands in the 80's, to flourishing compositional and production work through the 90's. Electronic music is where West shines best. And having released his first 'solo' CD in 2000 entitled 'Electricky', he has definately 'found his sound' of conceptual music and CD's that take listeners on a journey from first track to last.
A pure 'track journey' is West's 2002 CD release entitled 'Metalurge'. And a real 'space trip' can be had with Steven West's most recent release 'Analogistic' in 2003. As of early May 2006, the long awaited 'Geopoliticking' CD will be released. Comprising of many remastered 'experiments' that was put up here and elsewhere as MP3's. Woven into a chilling journey of political, economical, and moral evolution (or lack thereof?) Always daring, never compromising, Steven West delivers.
Why this name?
Starting off as the principal songwriter for 'The Group Of 77' (also at this site) and 'Demon Gap' (also at this site) Going full fledged solo in 2000. Yet still appearing in numerous production projects and bands to this day.
Do you play live?
I have stage fright worse than Barbara Streisand and Carly Simon combined. In the 20 years I've been doing music, I've probably done about 10 concerts. I like the really unusual venues, and probably the best concert I gave was at The Free Times Cafe in Toronto in 1994, and only 20 people showed up.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet is a fantastic promotional tool. But changes the music industry about as much as Art Digest magazine threatens The Louvre. But to connect people to people and tastes to tastes, the internet is a brilliant Eden.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Hell ya! I need that BIG money to go to Paris to see the REAL Mona Lisa! LOL

Your influences?
I personally like 'the greats' of electronic music. Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk, Throbbing Gristle, Depeche Mode, Stereolab, and Boards of Canada. These are (to me) the most important contributory sources in the evolution of electronic music. Personally, when I'm not doing electronic music I love old rock and roll, rockabilly, and C&W.
Favorite spot?
Quebec City. Heaven on earth.
Northern Ontario. Because I suck at french. LOL
