We play Celtic American Folk Rock, and many other things from time to time! We are four American men with Celtic roots and a love for the "roots music" -- but taking a somewhat rock-and-pop influenced angle on it. We play mostly originals with vocals, guitar, pennywhistle (and Uilleann pipes soon), bass, and world percussion, and many of our themes draw from Celtic myth and legend. We've played to major sci-fi/fantasy cons (such as Dragon*Con) as well as events like the upcoming "Return of the King" Oscars party in Hollywood (sponsored by theonering.net). Thanks for visiting our page!
Why this name?
Emerald for Ireland and a Rose for the heart -- and maybe just a bit of Rosicrucean symbolism in there. Some of this is music for the Lady.
Do you play live?
All the time. We love it, hope you do too. Our gigs are all special -- come share one with us! www.emeraldrose.com/gigs.htm
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
We could hope it might de-industrialize it a bit. We'll see.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Largely depends on which words were on the contract. If it's the usual words, we're likely to say no.
Band History:
Ah, go see our website at www.emeraldrose.com.
Your influences?
Jethro Tull, the Bothy Band, Tannahill Weavers, Chieftains, Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin, Queen, many, many others.
Favorite spot?
Might be the Village in NYC or the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. But North Georgia's not bad either.
Equipment used:
We largely stay away from electronica except for a trusty Roland HandSonic for performance and studio. Gibson, Ovation, Takamine and Carvin guitars/bass, a variety of whistles and pipes, and whatever we pull out of the percussion bag.
Anything else...?
Hope we'll be coming to your hometown soon! Come check out our site and sign up to our e-mail news list at www.emeraldrose.com. Slainte!
