The Aéropostale is an trio from Montreal that merges dub bass pulses, precise rock drumming, jazz atmospheres, drunken no-wave guitars and broken 80's synths.
Why this name?
Aéropostale is a legendary name. It was once the name of one of the first airmail airline. It was made famous by courageous pilots like Mermoz and St-Exupery. It evokes tenacity in face of adversity, a certain sense of risk and a total dedication towards reaching a common goal. This is a name that reflects the goals of the band: creating new sounds, covering new grounds and generating innovative "ambiances" using improvisation as a tool for discovery.
Do you play live?
L'Aeropostale live shows are always an event.

You can catch them in a place called the "Va-et-Vient", which is a small café in the heart of St-Henri in Montréal.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It will bring back the focus on the "song" by itself. It'a a return to the "single" format of the fifties and sixties. MP3 has weeded out the "filling" tracks out of the album format, leaving room only for the best songs to emerge.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course.
Band History:
Back in 2001, a day prior to the twin tower catastrophe, the members of the Aeropostale decide to play together for the first time... This first recorded jam contained so many good moments that the trio decided to play togheter more often. This process slowly lead them to build a repertoire of aventurous music, themes and songs. The first songs are recorded in the summer of 2002 and were released as an album called "A Mais Rapida" in december 2003. Now, in 2004, the band is getting ready to record its second album which will state clearly which way they are heading experimentally and sonically.
Your influences?
The main lines of inspirations for the Aéropostale as of july 2004 are: 80's funk rap, ragga, ambient rock, afrobeat, beatnik poetry records, early 80's synth music, krautrock and no-wave.

If you really need some names, here are some: Bill Laswell, Manu Dibango, Sonic Youth, Tortoise, Stereolab, Pan Sonic, the Neptunes, TV on the Radio, The Rapture, Add N to X, Jim Black, Led Zeppelin, The Sea and Cake, Chromeo, Mike Patton, Grandmaster Flash, the Stooges, Isaac Hayes, Kyuss, King Crimson, Lee Scratch Perry, Fudge Tunnel, Pavement, Kraftwerk, Rush, Trans Am, Noir Désir, James Brown, Dr.Dre, Lou Reed, Serge Gainsbourg and some german freaks such as Can and Neu.

The ultimate goal for the Aéropostale would be to be able to integrate all of this into a coherent whole...
Favorite spot?
Las Vegas, where we hope to become the opening act of our fellow canadian star Decline Dion and then go for an improvised jam with her, in a song about sex and nanotechnogy, right in the middle of the desert, completely stoned on peyote or cheap PCP while the dusk sets in and the amplifiers are frying by the overheating generators.

Equipment used:
- Cort bass
- The amazing ever expanding drum kit
- A cheap japanese guitar with a broken string
- An old beaten Korg Poly 800
- Yamaha DX-7
- various guitar pedals to get textures through a bass amp...
Anything else...?
