A#Sharp has been featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer. The "Milestones" article, written by Rosalee Polk Rhodes, appeared on page L6 of the Neighbors section.
A#Sharp, billed as "South Jersey'z Finest", is a hip hop jack of all trades. Rapping, playing keys, producing, song writing (including ghost-writing) are all embodied by this artist. A#, short for Akil Sharp, was born to a disc jockey father and a mother who writes poetry. He claims to have been rapping since age seven, writing his first song entitled "The Dumbest 600". Apparently Akil was partial to the Nintendo Entertainment System, and wrote the song as a dis to the Atari 2600 gaming system.
Why this name?
The name "Akil Sharp" comes from A#'s original birth name, which included the middle name "Akil". The "Sharp" came about from an "old lady in church [that] said [he] always looked sharp." The line stuck with him and eventually he just put the Akil and sharp together. It also has a musical significance. Some non-musicians (and musicians too for that matter) don't realize that "#" is a musical sharp sign. "Some people ask me what does A-number-Sharp mean? They think it's a number sign, or the pound symbol, or tic-tack-toe or something. It's a sharp sign, people, my name is the same note as a b-flat. But...I could never b-flat because they call me A#Sharp..."
Do you play live?
Haven't performed live for a while but would like the oppurtunity...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The record industry "big wigs" are forced to do things differently, including releasing albums early, lowering CD prices, & offering incentives like free DVDs w/ purchases.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if the FINE PRINT allows for some Vasoline before getting screwed.

Your influences?
LYRICAL: Remember in "Pulp Fiction" they said you're either an Elvis person or a Beatles person? Well in hip hop, you're either a Biggie head, or a 'Pac head. You either wanna be in tha Jigga camp, or you feelin' Nas. Well, to me Biggie wuz ill, but nobody in tha game will ever put more feeling into his music than 'Pac did. And Jay iz definitely nice wit' da wordplay, but all his dis tracks don't equal one "Ether". This'll be debated 'til tha end of time, but, that's just where I stand. With that said, my favorite lyricist iz still Big Daddy Kane--he had the illest metaphors. The greatest of all time to me though iz Rakim. Ra' and Kool G Rap fathered the whole style of lyrics today.
Favorite spot?
With wifey, wherever we are... (I'm gonna get some coochie coupons for that one.) 4 real tho, in tha lab, handz down. I'd rather stay up in tha lab for a str8 year than to even go on tour. I'd definitely need a studio on tha tour bus. I wish I ain't even have to waste 8 hrs. a day sleeping cuz I could B makin' trackx. Sometimes I don't even come outta dat jawn ta eat.
Az far az cities go ...kinda feelin' the musical vibe of Detroit, you know, Hitsville, Motown & all that...
Equipment used:
Can't give away all the secrets now...
but I play piano for real so I don't be usin' all that computerized ish. Ain't nuthin' wrong wit' that tho', if that's what you do--do you. I just like to do my music the old fashion way, but I do mess wit' Sony ACID, PCDJ & what not sometimes--especially for remixes.
