The Aberdeen Project is one of the hottest new R&B/Funk bands on the Indianapolis scene. Formed in October 2003, the band currently has 9 members, all with a variety of musical influences. Although primarily a funk/R&B band, The Aberdeen Project also specializes in all types of music, ranging from R&B, pop, and hip-hop to rock and jazz. Whether it be cover tunes or originals, The Aberdeen Project is always sure to rock the house!
Why this name?
Aberdeen is the name of a street and that is where it all started--the auditions, practice, etc.
Do you play live?
Yes, we play live in clubs all over Indianapolis and the surrounding areas, and we look forward to playing even more places than that. We love what we do, most definitely.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
The internet makes it easier to get your music to people who may not ever find out about you otherwise, and it also helps to get your music to a more widespread audience a lot faster. The internet can speed up the process of getting your name out there. It's much easier to put your music on the internet so it can be heard by people all over the world, then to try to save up money and travel to promote your music. Sure, some artists are still going go on the road and try to market themselves, but the internet is a great tool to help with promoting your music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Now that is something that we are still thinking on. Maybe if we were offered a ridiculously super deal or something, but at this time the best thing for us would be to keep it independent.
Your influences?
There are many musical influences in this band, really too many to name, but I will name some: Chaka Khan, Parliament/Funkadelic, Sade, L.T.D., Beyonce, Earth, Wind & Fire, and the list goes on...
