COLLEEN LAYLON
Christian/Country Singer Songwriter

Tennessee Singer Songwriter Colleen Laylon grew up in a musical family, the oldest of two children, she has been singing and performing for as long as she can remember. She began writing poetry in her early teens and wrote her first song at the age of 15. "Writing is great therapy for the soul," explains Colleen. Colleen loves photography and listening to various genres of music, but what really drives this country girl is writing, singing, and performing.
Colleen married a Building Contractor at the of age 21. She continued to sing and perform in clubs, weddings, funerals, and festivals whenever she could in her home state of Pennsylvania. Ten years and four kids later she found herself experiencing a devastating divorce. Colleen focused the next ten years on raising her children as a single Mom, and singing in various church choirs, private events, weddings and funerals. Colleen has written more than 100 songs. Numerous Independent Artists have recorded her songs including-Victoria Boland-Canadian Open 1st place winner adult division 2005, (Canada's version of American Idol). Joey Pearson- finalist on the nationally televised- (Star Search) in addition, he also performed Colleen's song- (Clinging To A Suitcase), on national talk show host Jenny Jones nationally televised talented kids special Christmas show. Most recently her Cowriter Travis Lane Miller, has been signed to Big and Rich's Label with Producer Kay, and they are currently cowriting new songs for his new CD release. Major Artist Billy Gilman also had Colleen's song Mistletoe From Heaven on hold in his early years. Others include-B. Thomas, Breanna Abel, Donna Frost, Breanne Nelson, Valerie Lynn McClendon, Double Vision, and many others have also performed and recorded Colleen's songs. Her recent original songs reflect the heart and soul of what she loves most, Christian Country music. Her original writing closely resembles Gretchen Peters, heart wrenching story telling style.
"I have no regrets about not being able to follow my heart and my musical ambitions while raising my family." God's timing is everything." Colleen continues, "At times I felt like a lost sheep though, hearing God's calling and encouraging me to focus on using my gifts as often as I could but never being in a position to actually do so. I feel in my heart, we are truly closest to God's purpose for our life, when we are pursuing our natural God given talents and I'm am so grateful that I am now able to listen to His calling."
In 2006, Colleen relocated to Tennessee after experiencing another traumatic experience a heartwrenching custody battle over her youngest daughter which inspired the Song- Raggedy Ann and You Took Away My Breath. Colleen plans to pursue her dreams and God's calling full time now . "Things are coming together as God intended and I absolutely love what I'm doing! I'm grateful that God's plan for me still includes writing, singing and performing! It is amazing how He continues to use what I love to do for His purpose. It's truly a blessing. I believe that we are each assigned a gift or special talent from the moment we are Saved by God's Amazing Grace and when we use our gift for God's true purpose for our life, He is glorified."
Colleen songs will really tug at your heart strings. Inspired by true to life experiences, some good and some not so good. This country Singer/Songwriter writes songs that truly capture the human spirit - ones dreams, drama, and heartache.
Why this name?
You'd have to ask her Mama!
Do you play live?
Colleen continues to sing when time permits, as her main focus is her songwriting.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Colleen feels it definitely gives independent Songwriters and Artists an added edge with marketing their God given talents.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Most definitely a Major cut is Colleen's goal.
Band History:
Starting over as of July, 2007. Some poor Jealous Soul hacked into my Sound Click band page and deleted everything-all my songs, Top chart standings, stations, thousands of messages etc. It sure hit me right through the heart since I've been here since 2001. But Life goes on and so does the music. Thanks for all your support over the years. Colleen
Your influences?
Singer/Songwriter-Gretchen Peters has definitely been an inspiration for Colleen's story telling style. There are so many Artists and songwriters over the years that have helped building the foundation for Colleen's writing-Dolly, Matraca Berg, Diane Warren, Alan Jackson, Charlie Craig, Willy Nelson, Martina Mcbride, Reba, Loretta etc......
