Hi, this is Mael. I'm a one-man-band. Making music has been my obsession for more than 20 years. Today I have enough audio material to burn 8 CDs. All material is unreleased. My music is purely instrumental, using synths and computer. It goes many dirrections, it is a mixture, hard to put it into a certain genre. As a teenager I was fond of progressive rock (YES, GENESIS, JETHRO TULL, KING CRIMSON, GENTLE GIANT) and those days electronica (EMERSON, VANGELIS, TOMITA, SCHULZE, WAKEMAN). Of course, the experiments of early PINK FLOYD releases and the power of rockers like LED ZEPELIN or ROLLING STONES marked my development. I think Ive got the best of XXth century pop music. Then I married a professional musician who guided me into the universe of classical music wich is too rich to name preferences. Then, studying Antropology, I discovered ethnic music, ritual and spiritual. The world of the ancients, the basic. This was the beginning in understanding modern art. But today I come here on SOUNDCLICK with my progrock project called BYSANTIUM. Enjoy!
Band/artist history
Well, you can say they were 2 phases: the first half of my life I dreamed of making music. The next half is in process: I make music.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
As a freelancer. Anywhere. Of course I like. Any show is special. And it's made of special moments.
Your musical influences
As I said at the Intro: electronica (old and new), rock, jazz, classical, ambiental, soundtracks, ethnic ... almost anything. Music is everywhere and there is always something to learn. Refearing to this particular project, BYSANTIUM, the most important influences came from Bysantine music of the orthodox churches and the progrock of the 70's. Using electronic instruments and computer technique, of course.
What equipment do you use?
Korg, Roland, Yamaha. Tascam. And softs. As a matter of fact, I intend to let the hard instruments leave. Softs are more useable and transportable.
Anything else?
I'd like to get in touch with a potent producer. I imagine extravagant shows and luxurious productions. Spectacular and very expensive.
