Band/artist history
It's difficult to say when Longing for Orpheus came into being. The seed was planted in my mind long before I touched a synthesizer, when I first heard Enigma's "Return to Innocence." The emotional resonance of that song led me to Enigma's discography, then to every similar artist I could find. Over a number of years, I obtained a couple of synthesizers and continued to expand my knowledge of music in various ways (I once sang in an opera and played keys in an industrial band on the same weekend). After many failed attempts, I finally managed to write a song I enjoyed listening to. That was in 2003. Here we are, a few short years later, and the first Longing for Orpheus album is complete. It's been both a thrilling and humbling journey. I think of it, though, as a first chapter.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Not at the moment. There aren't exactly a lot of New Age venues out there.
Your musical influences
As I mentioned, Enigma brought me into the fold. The next gem I discovered was Delerium, which led me to Conjure One and Balligomingo. I've been familiar with Enya since she released Watermark, and lately I've discovered the whole IntentCity Records catalog.
What equipment do you use?
Computer: PC running Sonar, Fruity Loops and the Korg Legacy Collection. Synths: Yamaha S80, Korg MicroKorg Guitar: Ibanez Artcore Whistles: Susato Low D, Clarke SweetTone
Anything else?
Thanks to Claudia Meyer, sxc, paris (http://www.sxc.hu/profile/claudmey), for the lovely photo to the left there.
