Uncle John Sawbriar - Fingerstyle Steel-String Acoustic Guitar Instrumentalist. Composes and performs a variety of truly original music that is difficult to categorize. Performs mellow to somewhat frenetic compositions recorded in one take on a custom-built grafted walnut Taylor 714ce Grand Auditorium called (appropriately) "Frankenstein". Despite your preferences in style, if the guitar is something you like to hear, then you too will become entangled in the sawbriar...
Band/artist history
Have played from Virginia Beach, to Philadelphia, and as far West as Jolietville, IN. Most prestigious venue to date was The Gordon Center for Performing Arts, in Owings Mills, MD. Was a one-night headliner in the "Roadhouse Guitar Series" in '06 and '07.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
The East coast. Time is spent traveling between the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area and the Hampton Roads region of Virgina. It's not bad here, except there is a lot of crime. Had the speakers for a Bose PAS stolen recently as the result of an apartment break-in.
Your musical influences
Leo Kottke, John Fahey, Peter Lang, Michael Hedges, Jimmy Page, Steve Howe, Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Kaki King, Adrian Legg, Preston Reed, Alex DeGrassi, Al Petteway, Doyle Dykes, Chet Atkins, et al.
What equipment do you use?
Taylor W14CE custom, Rainsong WS3000 12-string, Adamas 1597 SMT, '69 Fender Telecaster, Bose PAS
Anything else?
I refer to myself as an "original guitar alchemist" due to the fact that I try to spin gold from the straw of my thoughts. To create a complex melody and chord progression complete with bass and percussive effects, where there was nothing resembling it in existence prior to that is alchemy in it's most real sense.
