April Start, a small town girl born in Pincher Creek, Alberta and raised in Spokane Washington has poured her heart into music her entire life. Her songs are musically innovative and lyrically potent!!!
Why this name?
It's the name my mom & dad gave me:)
Do you play live?
Yes, I love playing live there's not a better rush than playing live and hearing your fans singing along to your music. I've played some shows in the Midwest, Florida, New York and New Jersey. All my upcoming shows are listed a on my myspace music page! www.myspace.com/AprilStartsmusic
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's changed the Music Industry completely. Everything is done over the internet these days. With the right promotion a record label really isn't needed anymore to sell your music. Artists can make a larger percentage off their record sales over the internet than a label would give them and share their music with millions of people all over the world with just a click of a mouse.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was right and I had control over the music, yes. Record labels are still a powerful tool when it comes to promotion.
Band History:
"April Start gives pop music a fresh feel with real songs and clever hooks."
A small town girl born in Pincher Creek, Alberta and raised in Spokane, Washington, April Start moved to NYC at the age of 18 to pursue a promising music career. She immediately immersed herself in writing and recording what would be her debut record, Changes, self-released in 2005. Several songs from that CD were featured in hit Disney movies, such as Eddies Million Dollar Cook-Off and Zenon Z3, Guiding Light and the popular television show Cheerleader Nation. April’s distinctive voice can be heard on the theme to TLC’s Makeover Train. Her live performances have taken her to Pensacola, Florida (to open for the legendary Little Feat), across the states for NACA showcases, and to many top stages in NY and NJ.
Right now, April is working on hit material for her upcoming CD, that is already getting accolades and placements:
• The positive, pop, teen-anthem, This is Me, was licensed for use as the opening song for a Hollywood theater production.
• Stupid Boy was placed in a Ricola video featuring ASCAP songwriters; the story is featured in the summer ’07 edition of ASCAP’s Playback Magazine.
• As the most downloaded artist on the UK based music website Amazing Tunes, April was whisked to London for a private BBC showcase in June 2007. The performance was deemed an outstanding triumph.
• April’s BBC performance was written up in London’s Metro Weekly, which boasts a readership of over 3 million.
• Start’s fan base spans the US and beyond, including over 36,000 MySpace friends and over 700,000 plays.
With a hot live band, showcases on the horizon, and no shortage of hit songs in the pipeline, April Start is changing the way people look at pop music. Irresistible, clever and perfectly executed, April proves pop is no longer a dirty word.
