I'VE RECORDED AND SUNG SOLO, DUOS, AND POP DANCE BANDS THROUGHOUT FLORIDA. I WRITE MY OWN MUSIC AND MY STYLE IS SOUL, ROCK, R & B, AND POP, WITH SOME DANCE BEATS. MY INFLUENCES ARE EVERYTHING FROM TONI BRAXTON, TO ARETHA FRANKLIN, ANITA BAKER, ETTA JAMES, PATTI LABELLE, SHERYL CROWE, BONNIE RAITT, MELISSA ETHERIDGE, ALANIS MORISSETTE, ALL ROLLED INTO ONE. I CAN GO FROM R& B TO POP TO COUNTRY OR MOTOWN AND ENJOY ALL STYLES. MY SONGS ARE WRITTEN IN DIFFERENT STYLES BASED ON THE STORY BEING TOLD.
Why this name?
MY INITIALS ARE "A" "M" "P" AND MY NICKNAME "AMP". I HAVE A STRONG VOICE WHICH BECAME "AMPLIFIED SOUND!"
Do you play live?
I AM CURRENTLY AVAILABLE SOLO AS AMPLIFIED SOUND AND ALSO SING IN THE FUNK SHWAY BAND , A FIVE PIECE PARTY DANCE BAND IN TAMPA, FLORIDA.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
ALL ARTISTS NEED MORE EXPOSURE FOR THEIR MUSIC AND IT'S A GREAT WAY TO ALSO MEET PEOPLE AND GET FEEDBACK.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
ABSOLUUUUUUUUUUUUTELY......WHO WOULDN'T ??????
Band History:
I have performed in so many genres of entertainment. I have a BFA in Musical Theater and so , out of college traveled doing professional theaters. I also did improv and comedy shows at EPCOT center at Disney World, comedy at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Cher, Janis Joplin impersonations, cruise ship variety shows, and have sung with all styles of bands in Florida, Top 40, Jazz, Standards, Broadway, Motown, Blues, Rock, Funk, You name it, I can sing it. I am currently available for solo, but also perform with DA FUNK SHWAY BAND, a five piece dance band that includes piano, bass, guitar, drums, and a dual keyboard Hammond B3 organ that fills a full and unique sound to the dance tunes.
Your influences?
I grew up during the musical variety show era: Carol Burnett, Sonny & Cher, The Barbara Mandrell Show, The Grand Old Opry, The Gong Show, Donny and Marie, Star Search, and idolized Kennedy Center Honors. Barbra Streisand and "Sing along with Mitch Miller" were memorized by age 9! I always knew I would be an entertainer. Of course, a BFA in Musical Theater gave me influences into complex music by the likes of Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim, Fats Waller, Cole Porter, Marvin Hamlisch, Duke Ellington, Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser, to name a few. The 80's brought the greats of Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, and Mariah Carey. The best tape I ever bought was Aretha Franklin's 1.99$ tape I found at an obscure gas station of her first Decca recording of Gospel Tunes....a crystal clear voice and my favorite before her bigger hits. The Queens also include Janis Joplin, Etta James, Patti Labelle, Phoebe Snow, Joan Baez, Sheryl Crowe, Bonnie Raitt, Jill Scott, and I will say, I'll give Mary J Blige credit for not only rapping but having the voice and the emotions to back it up. One of my favorite Anita Baker songs is "You Bring Me Joy." I'll also give Alicia Keyes credit for playing piano with her unique style but I hope she doesn't sell out and lose her style by doing too many DJ Nasty Remixes like her "No One" remix...the original was her true essence. And Fergie proved she had the emotion and voice in "Big Girls Don't Cry" after leaving her booty shakin' spot from The Black Eyed Peas. Smart Woman! Women don't need to sell the sex thing to be a TRUE ARTIST. There are plenty of ugly male virtuoso musicians out there just playing and singing and getting the repect... I am a woman determined to prove that women are artists too, not just booty shakers in the music scene. Just look at Britney Spears to see how she was shaped and "molded" so therefore lost her direction and own artistic empowerment, and Christina Aguilara has a fabulous voice and doesn't need all the nasty girl image to prove it with her voice. The WORLD will hear me SOON.
Favorite spot?
Las Vegas, Baby!
Equipment used:
I play a Yahama and sing lead of all styles. Most people say I can blow it with soul, that's why my name is "AMP"...I played folk music on the ukulele in kindergarten and knew music would be with me forever...I am primarily a singer, actress, and comedian, though play keys, some guitar, saxophone, and even some violin. I like country such as Faith Hill and Gretchen Wilson, however I also can do some great rock renditions of "Welcome To the Jungle" or Joe Cocker that is mixed with show and comedy...depends on my mood.
Anything else...?
AMPLIFIED SOUND IS WHAT YOU'LL HEAR WHEN I BLOW OUT AND SING. AND THIS ALL FROM A WHITE CHICK WHO CAN ALSO RAP.
I AM CURRENTLY STARRING IN "NUNSENSE", A MUSICAL BROADWAY COMEDY AT MASQUE THEATRE FROM MAY 2ND THROUGH MAY 18TH IN THE PART OF SISTER HUBERT. SONGS INCLUDE A GOSPEL NUMBER, IMPROV, AND EVEN TAP DANCING NY ANNEMARIE! FOR MORE INFO, SEE SHOW DATES LISTED ON CALENDAR.
