Alexandra Lajoux

Welcome, Friend! This singer-songwriter and producer writes and recruits as the Spirit moves!

Please check out my latest uploads, "Station" and "I'm Not Stupid," (heavy!) plus happier tunes like "Get up and Go!" Please leave a comment!! I read French, German, Italian, and Spanish, and can decipher a number of other languages, so if you are too shy to write in English, go ahead and write your own language. I will write back.

Soundclick features all my new tracks, occasionally featuring works produced for or with others. Once a barcoded album is out, I put the music on my My label, American Classic Recordings (americanclassicrecordings.com).

ACR has released several albums over the past two years. The first one, My Country (2006), was a singer-songwriter album featuring yours truly (y.t.). To its glory, it featured guest vocalists Doc McKinsey and Eric Townsend, as well as inspired instrumentals from Andrew Acosta, Jeff Severson, Christopher Sexton, Steve Magnusen, and others. See more details at AlexisMusicStudio.com, dedicated to veterans and active-duty military. Our song "We Thank You" is posted at americasupportsyou.mil. Please visit and express your appreciation for our brave men and women in uniform.

The next album released under the American Classic Recordings - Praise! label was "Day of Praise," released April 9, 2007. Guest stars included Wesley Robinson, Noreen Freeman, Angel Sheppard and daughters, Jarvis Smith, Jonathan Hopkins, Kendra Miller, Aaron Bunche, and Emmanuel Jackson.

Now we are completing a Gospel album featuring singers and musicians from several churches in the greater Washington, D.C., area, including Macedonia Baptist; First A.M.E., Alexandria, aWoodstream, and Hunter Memorial A.M.E. Featured singers, arrangers, and songwriters include Joe Warfield, Dorothy Thomas, and many others. Engineering will be from Keith Burrell of Cue Recording Studios in Falls Church, Virginia.
Why this name?
It's my name....my married name that is. (My maiden name was Alexandra "Alex" Reed.) At this point I'm working solo, but some day I'd like to form/join a group for a live act. For now, there's no time; my day job takes most of my time, and rightly so! One must give a fair day's work for a fair day's wages. Yet compose, sing, and produce for His glory I must!
Do you play live?
Yes! Most recently, I sing at the Writer's Tent at the Vietnam Memorial on Veteran's Day 2007. Also, last year I sang "We Thank You" in a Star Search contest November 14, 2006, videotaped by Arious Entertainment. In 2008 I have performed at the Artists' Showcase at the Old Town Theatre of Alexandria. I also sing in assisted living communities and at all military holidays where veterans gather. In October 2006, I joined trumpeter Larry Wiseman and guitarist Corey Nitschke in San Diego to pay tribute to soldiers at the first annual convention of the Military Writers Society of America. Larry's wife Susan, The Tribute Lady was there. What an honor it was for all of us to perform our songs in honor of our brave troops. Oh..and right now I am in a show called Fables for the Tables in Old Town Alexandria. We will perform at the National Theatre on September 29, 2008.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It multiplies opportunities for collaboration among musicians and for correspondence between musicians and/or fans. It's so gratifying to see (from Soundclick's visitor tracking service) that I have had listeners not only from my beloved U.S.A., but also from around the world, including other nations in North America (Canada and Mexico), South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela) ,the Carribean (Antigua, Aruba, Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico), Africa (Algeria, Benin, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, and Uganda as well as the Island of Mauritius off the coast of Southern Africa), greater Asia (China - including Hong Kong - Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, as well as both India and Pakistan), the Middle East (Bahrain, Islamic Republic of Iran, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates)--plus Europe/Eastern Europe (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary,Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxemburg, the Netherlands,Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro,Spain, Slovakia, Slovenia,Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and all four Scandanavian countries), as well as Turkey, part of Europe but also a gateway to the middle-eastern part of the Eurasian continent). And I've also had listeners from Russia,Georgia, Ukraine, and surrounding nations such as Kazakhstan; "down under" and over (Australia and New Zealand), and more. According to Soundclick reports, I've had at least one listener in each of those countries over the past year--and in some cases, many. What an honor....Last summer I collaborated with an artist then named MCGridlocked (Jordan in Canada) on Cursed, and started scouting music for a broker to Warner Brothers. Although it is difficult to get "in," I have placed a recording harpist and have opened the door for a royalty deal for a renowned operatic soprano. These artistic and business connections couldn't have happened without the Internet--a human logic based ultimately on a divine order created by the hand of God, the King of Love.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course I would! I'd sign with a minor label too. But rather than pine away for that, I've started my own label, American Classic Recordings (a country label with special sub-labels for material that is eclectic (the Liberty sub-label), in Spanish (the Las Americas sub-label), or faith-based (the Praise! sub-label). My long-term business goal is to create a critical mass of tracks that have a demonstrable fanbase; Perhaps a rising independent will buy me out someday and sign my collabors--stars all--and me to a contract then! But even if this never happens, I will enjoy creating music, encouraging and being encouraged by others, and praising God along the way.
Band History:
After decades of studying classical voice and singing in church, I experienced heartbreak. Friends, I was crying in the morning! Only writing COUNTRY and GOSPEL songs kept the pain at bay. Something or Someone (the Holy Spirit I believe) moved me to record a CD. Now, with my heartache healed, I've broadened my musical horizons. Country music, and my own country, America, will always be nearest and dearest to my heart, but my next albums will be called MY WORLD and MY LORD. Please check out my new songs- "Je Retaime" (I Relove You); "Liberty," my song welcoming all immigrants who truly love America; and my new Gospel song "Holy Spirit/Time Coming" featuring Welsey Robinson, plus the classic "Eye on the Sparrow," featuring Wesley with Noreen Freeman. The soloists for Time Coming include Wesley Robinson, Aaron Bunche, Emanual Jackson, and Jonathan Hopkins as well as a community choir with lead singer Angel Sheppard. (Please see more detailed credits at the song.) Listen and be blessed!
PS: I may produce a special country version of Eye on the Sparrow as well...stay tuned.
Your influences?
My influences range from Bach to Tupak (each great in his own way), and my favorite singers are Yolanda Adams and Dolly Parton. My music and voice, however, is in the country/folk vein: Patsy Cline, Joan Baez, Judi Collins, and Edith Piaf are my vocal role models. The CD Baby folks think I sound like the Native American singer Brooke Medicine Eagle, a singer with soul as deep as earth. Once I was featured on a "Dueling Cowgirls" show (on an Internet radio station) against Valerie Lynne, a modern-day Loretta. I'm flattered!
Favorite spot?
Locally, it's been Old Town Alexandria, VA, but we just moved to Fairfax so that could win me over. Nationally, New York and Philadelphia claim my heart. En las Americas, San Jose, Costa Rica, esta numero uno para mi. In Asia, though Hong Kong inspires, Tokyo calls--konnichiwa! And in Europe, how could I choose from among my old haunts in Berlin, Paris, and Rome?
Equipment used:
I tried accompanying myself on a KN6000 Panasonic Technics keyboard for a while, but it distracted me from singing. I'm hoping to recruit instrumentalists and vocalists to collaborate with a joint live act. Or maybe I could improve my guitar playing...It's never too late, eh friends?
Anything else...?
My songs are excruciatingly human but they are imbued with the hope only the Lord can give. A priest praised them as being "not too preachy." That's true, but at the same time, taken together, the songs testify to the Lord's saving graces (even when his role in a song in silent and invisible).
