This project is a reaction to a dark, common life like there's plenty of. A Cool Devotion is about passion, struggle and love lost, as about hope and reaction to frustration and emptiness. This music is not for winners or glamour boys but for the ones who needs something to rely on instead of watching the ceiling every night wondering why: "Is it always like this?".
Why this name?
It comes from a distorsion of one Nine Inch Nails song verse in the song "I'm Looking Forward To Joining You Finally"...
Do you play live?
I'd like to more than anything else but I can't at the moment as I still don't have a band. I compose and produce music by myself.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It could give more visibility to underground artist and help them to get a bit of what they deserve but it's too early to compete with the majors and the standard music industry that creats mainstream, maybe in twenty-thirty years things will change...I hope a bit early...for myself!
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Of course I will, everyone who's inside this thing wishes to make a career from this passion, and a major it's the only one who can guarantee you the structures to do that. But I'd do it only if I could have the complete control of my music...the last thing I want is someone to tell me: You should sound like...or you should dress like... or talk like...I want to remain myself and to be satisfied with what I do, this is the first thing that made me step into music.
Band History:
A Cool Devotion is a solo project by Maximilian Rix (Born Massimiliano Rizzo,1969), helped by Tony Vitali (Born 1965). Influences come from various bands of the eighties like The Cure, Marillion, Pink Floyd, U2.
This Duo started to collaborate in 2004, the year in which all the material for the album “Bleedthrough” was composed. Maximilian has been in various Rome based bands before: The Verve (A rock cover band of the eighties, role: bass player), The Lovecats (The Cure tribute band, role: singer and bass player), the Hype (U2 tribute band, role: guitar player and backing vocals). Tony Vitali is a jazz lover and a self-employed guitar teacher.
The debut album “Bleedthrough” did moderately well at North American and Australian radios, the first single “Petrified” reached number one on numberonemusic.com charts, the second “Caged”, number two, the third ”Stop By You” has reached number 10.
In 2005 Tony Vitali quit but a new album ("Falling From Grace") has just come out, composed and performed only by Maximilian. The album is available for pre-listening at the official site www.acooldevotion.com. The first single from “Falling From Grace” (You Are My Treason) made its debut at number 9 of numberonemusic.com after only one month from the release date. At the end of August 625 fans are on A Cool Devotion mailing list and things are in forward motion.
Your influences?
They say I sound like The Cure, Pink Floyd, Marillion, something that can recall U2 but I don't want to appear so pretentious...just listen and judge yourself...this is simlply me, with my musical background I can't deny.
