Well, I am a self taught singer/songwriter/musician originally from Atlanta, Georgia. I left the corporate world and now reside in Texas where I am pursuing my passion to create and play music. I have a variety of influences from blues to rock and am now in the stage of producing and recording my first release. A special thanks goes out to Roland Corp., Boss, Gallien Krueger and G & L Guitars. Also, waiting in the wings is a full working line up of seasoned players to move this project forward. All Mp3 tracks by Mayflowers Return are copywrite protected and were created, played and written by yours truly. Cheers!
Why this name?
Long story... but I got the name of the band from a scene out the movie "The Aviator".
Do you play live?
At this time I am not playing out live because I am focused on writing and recording my first release. I love playing out live.... you get the chance to "feel" the energy from the crowd, plus often times the music is spontaneous and dynamic... there is nothing quite like it... Special moments would be playing out back at UGA (Georgia) at Rivercrest and in Atlanta at Fatt Matts...
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
Its an excellent avenue for new and seasoned artists to get their music out. Good for most everyone...
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
If the deal was fair and I respected the label... Contrary to what some may think, for me its about quality, integrity and love for the craft. If someone does those things... they will eventually hit their stride...
Band History:
Another long story... But here it goes... Mayflowers Return is a new band that I created after over 20 years of playing music... I am currently forming a tight line up of seasoned professionals (3 to 4 piece) to complete this project. Where did all of this begin to get to this point... well here it goes..
For me it all started when I was just a kid... I got my first drum set by 7, and played it so much I put a hole in the kick drum... Years later, on X-mas, I got my first real snare drum and my brother got a guitar... It wasn't long till I was picking up both... Lots of fun and memories that I will never forget... I continued to play throughout my formative years and into high school...
Once I hit college at UGA (Georgia) I met an excellent guitarist and soon afterwards we formed a 3 piece lineup... I thought we sounded pretty good and we named the band "The Sleestacks" from the 70's TV Show "Land of the Lost". We played out, had fun and eventually we all went out seperate ways after college..
Before I left UGA, I met a blues cat named "Little Brother" , a.k.a. Doug Jones... For me, for the first time, my eyes were opened to the blues and its importance to rock... Soon after moving back to Atlanta, I joined his band as a drummer in a 4 piece line up called "Interstate Brickface"... I was the youngest of all the players and really learned alot in those years... Eventually I was replaced by another drummer.. and in a way it was a blessing... It gave me the opportunity to focus on my craft and hone my skills as a writer and guitarist... At least with the guitar you can write...
In 2007 I left the sales world of corporate America and moved to Texas to pursue my dreams.. To play music professionally and put back into the craft the honor and respect that it deserves... God knows that there are alot of wonderful musicians who are no longer with us and that laid the groundwork for us all... I consider it a priviledge to play and dedicate my work to not only them... but those to come... I believe good things are soon to come... So keep watching...
