1849AD is actually one person, Daan Smit. His mission is to write music that carries you away from this world and leaves you floating in another dimension... Or maybe just to make music that everyone enjoys listening to. Anyway, its always been and always will be experimental music, with all sorts of genres mixed together. As with most music its better to listen to it than to talk about it, and on this site there a quite some songs to be found.

Im also working on some commercial- and promotion film scores, the ones ive done already will appear on this site later. Its a thing i really enjoy doing, so if theres anyone interested, feel free to sent me an e-mail.

For now, enjoy the music...

Why this name?
1849AD is the year in which E.A.Poe died, who is one of my inspirators to write my music.
Do you play live?
I had some live performances in Norway, where i also played Norwegian echoes for the first time live ;)
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
I think it`s great that more and more musicians now get their chance to publish their music.
Would you sign a record contract with a major label?
Maybe, depends on all the terms of course... Though i don`t think a major record company would be interested in 1849AD.
Band History:
I played for a few years in some hardcore/metal bands, but that simply wasn`t satisfying my creative "vibes". So i decided to continue on my own, using my home studio. I sometimes invite friends or other musicians to record a song.
Your influences?
My influences vary from Type O Negative to Underworld, and from Miles Davis to Prokoviev. Hard to say actually.
Favorite spot?
Solund, Norway. My inspiration source lies there...
